After chasing around 12 caravans as a first van for my son we have found a dry one at last right under our nose.
As you can see from previous posts we have had many disappointing trips to view caravans which turned out to be very damp.
The last straw was Saturday when we went to view a van which had been stored for 18 months in a storage depot. Because of security we had to visit at the same time as another buyer. The van was obviously extensively damp- the damp meter sounded like a fire alarm - and we were not interested. The other man ,in full knowledge of the damp, bought it for £1175.
On Sunday we spotted an ad for the same model At £1850 on Free Ads.This one had a recent service and clear damp check . Many extras as he was giving up caravanning. The seller was also selling "his brother's van".We made arrangements to view on Monday. We couldn't believe it. We thought the same man was buying another one we were after. No it was the same van. Still very wet and smelly. He was mortified when we knocked on his door and realised who it was asking for a look at the service record and damp check.
A further check on Free Ads showed other ads including a wanted ad for vans up to £1500.Three ads and three different mobile numbers but the same address in Blaby , Leicestershire.
Our fortune changed later that day when we found a 1996 Sterling Europa 450 EK for £2100 only 8 miles down the road. All papers and annual service reports from new. Unbelievable!!
I feel sorry for all the unsuspecting buyers who will believe his story! Some who don't read this forum will not think to take a damp meter. Don't know how people like this want to make a living ripping people off!
