We love the end bedroom 6 berth caravans but require an mtplm of less than 1500kgs.  We were set on the Lunar Quasar 546 but not so keen on the 2010 tweaks - the Coachman Amara is perfect (we like the separate shower & generous kitchen areas of these models) but too heavy - are there any new models in this category for 2010 that Im not aware of?

I think so, we thought long and hard about the Lunar quasar 615/6 but we didn't think that having the extra axle actually gave us much extra space plus OH wants to tow it with his company car because his personal mileage is part of his remuneration so we are limited to an executive car rather than a 4x4 to tow with & as first timers we are keen to stick to the 85% give or take the odd percent.

I quite like the new Sprite one, same layout but not seperate shower though. I think the inside is really nice (it's on the website). I know what you mean about the Lunar, I was scared to look (incase it was much nicer!) 'cos we weren't supposed to buy until next year. But i'm glad we got our 09 one. Don't know why everyone moans about the small front diner, for our family of 4 it's fine. We find that we usually use the back diner for eating 'cos it's mostly up and we can fit round that without too much of a squeeze.

I like the fabric in the new Lunar but I don't think the new sink is a good idea, looks too cheap and takes up too much room. Looks like they have halved the kitchen cupboard space.

I love the new charisma interior, was abit sad about that, 'cos it was only avail. as an eccles last year and that was too heavy for us, but really don't like the door to the washroom or that silly cupboard underneath the washroom sink.

We had a look at the Coachman once we had ordered ours (it's lovely) but like you said, just too heavy.

Happy hunting.

Nicky

Have a look at the Swift Charisma or Sterling Europa 565. I think these vans are the layout you want and are MTPLM 1489kg. We are looking at them as we would like fixed bunks on a single axle. We have had two sterling vans now have been very pleased with them.

There is the Pageant S7 Bretagne (MTPLM 1482), but it has a tiny washroom so that could be the killer for you on that one.

Thanks, yes the washroom does seem to be a sticking point, the Bretagne & GT60 seem to both have tiny washrooms - most of the time this wouldn't be an issue as we are happy to use site facilities but its in the school hols when I'd be alone with the kids that having the separate shower cubicle would definitely be a plus.  Im a pretty average size woman but my kids are still young & need me to shower them & I can't imagine being able to squeeze us all in to some of these wetroom bathrooms to get them showered without causing havoc

Thanks Nicky that Sprite is pretty tempting even with the combi washroom - just by the price & weight of it but I suspect the washrooom will again be an obstacle.

We looked at the Charisma 565 at the NEC in Feb and it came a close second to the Lunar - Im not aware of any updates for 2010 so I will take a look at that as again it was the washroom & lack of worktop space which put us off slightly.

I can hear the word 'compromise' ringing in my ears!!! Or perhaps we will have to wait for a used 2009 lunar 546 to become available

The 09 Lunars still have a compromise with the front lounge.  Check you can use the front bed pulled out without removing the chest as moving that each night could be a faff.

The 09 Lunar actually suits us better and we've measured the width and can't see a problem with sleeping with the unit in situ.  The smaller living space suits us because we are a family of 4 but I know that generally the biggest complaint about that model was the small seating area up front so Lunar probably felt under pressure to change it.

We were told the Swift Charisma's are the posh version off the sprite major's

Just a thought.

The new lunars are on the Lunar website now and it seems that the front singles are now both 1.86 long, I like the new door though, that is smart.

I've just realised it's the Sterling Europa I like (not the Charisma). too many caravans - not enough brain cells!

Keep a look out on caravanfinder.co.uk at least you can search by layout.

I've just done a google for a Lunar 546 2009 model and quite a few links have come up with dealers who seem to have them in stock. May be worth a look - you might get yourself a bargain with the 2010 models coming out.

Hi yes there are a few, some listed as new others as used but they are actually demo models according to my local Lunar dealer as the Lunar 546 was sold out way way before the end of season & he warned me off those because he says that 1. they will have had so many people through them so will have had a lot of wear & tear and 2. he wouldn't accept a warranty transferral because he couldn't be sure what damage would've been there from factory and what could've been caused by viewing public so would be a nightmare if something were to go wrong with it.

I think we'd better book our tickets to the NEC next month and have another traipse around the different show models
