I have a mover but still reverse the van for fun. I have the mover because there is not enough room to get the van on my drive with the car attached.
I have a mover 'coz I don't find reversing onto a pitch fun!
Big Al, arn't you a lorry driver? They can manoeuvre their great long lorries,it seems, into any space so you would find reversing a caravan a doddle. My OH is (I dont't tell him this) quite a good driver but he has not reversed a caravan much and worse of all he ignores me!!!!!!!!!! LOL. He is rather deaf (medically not just not wanting to hear me) so when I stand at the rear of the van waving/jumping up and down/hands oh hips glaring etc it just does not work and I end up racing to the car and banging so hard I nearly dent the thing. If ever any of you are on the same site, you will recognize me just through the strange performance I am putting on for the amusment of fellow caravanners.
Big Al, while I can reverse (if I have to), reverse is too highly geared on our car so clutch cooking is too much of a risk unless the reversing is dead straight, and if you are reversing dead straight, then you may as well not have pulled so far forward in the first place!!!
OH insists on guiding me onto our drive, I just go along with it for the fun. She will stand at the back of the van shouting left a bit or right a bit but what I haven't got a clue on is that her left, my left, turn the wheel left or make the caravan go left. I just don't know, it's too confusing. But seeing as I drive lorries every day (hgv 1) just drop the window & park it were I want it.
Totally baffled her last week as I had to get the van off the drive to the workshop & back on the drive the following day while she was at work, and what a clever boy I did it all on my own. Even after doing so she still insisted on 'guiding' me on when we came back from shackerstone on sunday. Oh well keeps her happy & me amused.
