Hi we have a dandy 5 in good condition, as we have done a lot of work on it. And have had a freedom Sunseeker caravan ( never found much sun lol ) some yrs ago, that we found to be a great small caravan.
We are now thinking a geting another Freedom next yr, as the dandy is geting to heavy to put up, and other health reasons as well. So the Question is can we fit an Alko Stabilizer on a freedom, as we found it move a bit in the wind off HGV's on the M's, I lowerd my speed from 60 mph to 50 mph and this helped but this was without a stabilizer.
We dont think we can manage the leaf tipe stabilizer as Alko would be best.
We used a bulldog stabiliser on ours it was fine, selling them at tow sure for under £45, wouldn't shell out for an alko, although they are easier to use!
We could never get on with the Blade type stabilisers as we had detachable towbars and the bracket used to move about so we changed to the hitch type You can fit the Alko hitch stabilisers to freedoms and its an easy job, I am really the most useless person in the world at d.i.y (Seriosuly am awful) but I managed to fit one when we had a sunseeker.
Hope that helps
------------- Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
My l996 Freeedom caravan purchased earlier this year came with an Alko tow bar and stabiliser. It's OK and takes any wind movement out but I do find the 'arm' heavy for me (single female) to lift at times. Had to change the ball hitch on my car to accommodate it but that was not a problem.
The thing I hadn't bargained for on these small caravans is how hard it is to reverse. They come round on you so quickly. Am having to widen the gate on to my drive!
Last time I took it out I held up a few cars trying to get it back in my drive. In the end they jumped out and unhitched it and pushed it back for me! (no doubt muttering typical female as they drove off!)
Well they are great little vans, loved ours but it just wasn't big enough for us. I still think the blade stabalisers are ok, when you compare the price difference, depends how much you want to shell out!
Bought my Freedom off ebay earlier this year campeasy, but they are holding their price and I guess I paid too much for it really but they are just what I needed and I love mine. Back and other problems made me realise I couldn't cope with a tent so this was the answer. Having had caravans in the past when my husband was alive with the usual stabilisers I would go for the Elko again any day. Mine is an old one and that is probably why it's hard to raise and lower but a newer one should be fine.
