I'm thinking of fitting a weatherproof external TV\Sat point on our van to save having the cable through a window, does anyone know if this will affect the Warranty at all with having to drill a hole?
Does it already have an aerial point and you just want a sat point??? if so just use the aerial point for the satellite, we do and its fine, you can buy the sat plug to coax plug adaptors from Maplin, then simply plug the dish into the outside socket then do the same on the inside aerial socket to the receiver.
No it currently doesn't have an external aerial point of any kind so I can't use that.
I have looked at putting it in the battery box but there didn't look like there was any room to fit it, I'll take another look and see if I have missed anywhere.
Use your front gas locker...mine has large drop vents which you can easily feed the cable though from underneath, again no need for expensive w/proof gear. Also gives a short cable run if sat dish jocky wheel mounted.
Maplin also do a FLAT FLEXIBLE (adhesive backed) sat connecting cable about 9inches long to go through windows and let them fully close.
Always think 3 times, and then again !,before making a hole for anything....because you will always wish you had put it someware else !!
I put mine on the back wall of the front locker, feed the aerial cable through a hole in the bottom of the locker, the fixed the cable from the socket then comes out through the wall behind the front chest of drawers. When not in use it's coiled up under the cushions.
I had one fitted to the underside of the van (about a couple of inches from the side) so that the socket was easily accessible and we only had to drill a cable sized hole in the floor. The cable is then curled up under the seat until we need it.
would not use front locker as there is a chance of sparks if switched on as these cables carry a 12v charge in use.i know got a right belt last week helping a guy to set up his dish.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
My battery compartment is directly beneath the cupboard my Status power unit sits in. I drilled a 7mm hole in the battery box to feed cable to base of cupboard and terminated it with a standard UHF aerial fitting that can be connected to TV aerial or satellite by using choice of adaptors. I left about 6" of cable that sits neatly in the box and the cable is held by a cable tie either side of the hole plus fittings are fully waterproof. On the inside the cable easily runs to connect (with a female-female adaptor) to the aerial out cable from the Status power supply, therefore feeding direct to the aerial sockets in the van.
I put mine in the battery box, next to the 240v socket. I have fitted two, one for Sat and one for an External Aerial. I have also fitted a switch in the wardrobe to select either the built in aerial or the external one.
