ok i am coming over to join you guys after many years of camping under canvas, i have loads of ??'s, so please bear with me, many many people tell me and warn me not to use the shower in the van as it causes damp, now with 3 young children and myself the thought of just waking up and jumping in the shower is heaven but i don't want to ruin the van.
Another factor is water supply. It makes sense to use the shower on a serviced pitch, but if you are transporting water to the van then it makes less sense.
we never use the shower in our van, simply because of the water usage, but i always insist on sites where the facilities are very good, however i would use it if it meant the kids had to go to dirty shower blocks, we use ours to store dirty washing, and have seen some people put an extra hanging rail in there
------------- we have seen the light at the end of the tunnel tent
i use 2 aqua rolls so water supply isnt a problem anyway my eldest son cant wait for the aqua roll to empty so he can go fill it and we have a shower cubicle not a shower over the toilet
------------- laugh and the world laughs with you fart and you stand alone
We almost never use site facilities. For us it has nothing do with how good the facilities are. We have our own shower so we use it (both of us) every day. Neither myself nor my wife particularly enjoy the sharing of facilities. It's a bit like booking an ensuite hotel room rather than a shared bathroom down the hall. It does make thing easier having a 100 litre fresh water tank and 9 litres of hot stored water. I think it;s worth the effort refilling and emtying the waste tanks. Usually do both each 3 days if we do not go berserk.
------------- cramming for my finals in the twilight zone
If on a service pitch, we always use the shower. After use i clean and wipe the shower down. On sites in the UK, we or rather hubby does ( i go to make sure hes alright ) use the disabled showers.
We use the vans shower regularly.
Damp as in condensation can be an issue in cold ambient conditions so good post shower ventilation is desirable.
Damp as in water ingress has never been a problem.
Showering in a van is very different to domestic or site facility showering as available water and pressure are much more limited. So if a full drenching is what you want a van shower is not for you.
Van showering typically means wetting oneself, turning off and soaping up, then rinsing off. This limits the water use making at least two showers viable from the available water.
Stripping the water from the body with a flannel and the use of micro-fibre towels make sense in reducing wet towel problems.
We always try and use serviced pitches where possible. Then we use the shower. To be on the safe side we have removed the carpet in the washroom when using the shower, and we put a towel down on the floor at the entrance to the shower to catch any drips when we get out. So far it's worked really well.
such a fussy so and so it would take me longer to clean the shower after i dont bother using it.always use the site ones.we did use it for our 4 year old grandchild but now he is 5 he likes the site ones.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
