Picked up my new(ish) van on the weekend, a Sterling Europa 525 and i'm a bit puzzled where the toilet flush chemical goes. The guy from the dealer showed me a little lockable flap on the outside of the van, which he said the flush chemical goes into.
When i got the caravan home, i opened the flap to "have a look" and it seems a little odd!!! Do you just pour the chemical into the hole or what? I know it sounds daft, but on my previous caravan the chemicals for the flush was added inside the cassette area via a swivel pipe on the tank.
Blue chemical goes in the cassette, in the amount recommended, with a top up of water, and pink flush liquid through the hole in the side of the caravan, topped up with water. We use a two litre plastic bottle to make pouring the water in easier, as the angle isn't that easy to pour into.
How do you know when it's full? Does it spill over if you add too much? I know it sounds daft but with my previous van the flush had a sight glass for the flush level.
i use a small watering can about three ltr and when this has gone refill.if you use more you may find you are not using all of it and you have to drain off the excess which cost money as the fluid is not cheap to buy.i add about 30 mil ltr of double strength pink.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Yes, it will spill over if you try to put in too much. Just listen as you pour, you will soon be able to tell when it is reaching the top.

I add the pink stuff first and then fill it with water - I can usually see when it gets to the top, but I don't think it will do any harm if it overflows a bit. I usually keep a 2l plastic milk carton (washed out ) for the purpose of filling the top tank with water.

I think you should clarify this by saying that you only put a little water into the waste container with the blue. I know it sounds obvious, but this reads like you should top it right up!
Don't wish to sound like a smart arse but the original poster sounds like they need really detailed, accurate help.
We put the pink in the filler tube neat from the cap that seals the emptying tube. You'll see that it is calibrated to give the correct measure of both blue and pink. There is also a little cut-away semi-circle in the lip which facilitates ease of pouring into the filler tube. We then use a really cheapo - cheapo little 2 gallon watering can (with the rose removed obviously) to carry the pink down into the flushing tank.
Fill my flush the same way (cheap swan neck watering can). I only ever stop filling when my feet are in danger of getting wet (!) But i put pink stuff in first - then that way the only stuff leaking onto the floor is water! But as already posted, you get to know the 'noise' of your system, and when it is almost full you can hear the water 'bubbling' and usually stop pouring before wet foot syndrome sets in lol!!
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!
im really desperate for help here..
i have this flsp to top up but when i open it theres wires there and it doesnt look like its an enclosed tube going down?
and im worried im pouring liquid where it shouldnt go!
anyone help please?
martin
The old cassette type toilet you had was a C4 which had a longer holding waste tank where you pull the swivel pipe out and fill up your top flush pink fluid in there. The type you have now is a probably a C200 and the flap on the outside of the caravan which you mention is the place where you now fill your top flush pink fluid. Although the locations are different the process is exactly the same. It's a little more difficult to fill in comparison to the older type cassette but I pour the pink fliud in first and then use a plastic watering can (that I keep in the front locker) filled with water to top it up.

Thanks and is it normal to be able to have wires running loose just inside this flapped hole?
cheers
I haven't seen any wires in the flapped hole in mine. As far as I know they run down behind the toilet out of sight and straight down into the cassette tank compartment below where the batteries are located.
