When you shut down your van for the winter (I know a lot of you down south don't do that) do you take out the soft furnishing/curtains and store them else where (ie in your attic). 

yes i do take out the cushions and store them in the attic.not just chucked in though,we have old bed covers that we fit over the top to prevent damp and dust.remove anything that can freeze and burst.remove any wools or materials or plastic bags that can make a nest for our little tiny friends.remove all bedding and pillars and seal them in black bags and place them in the attic.remove any books or mags they can nest with.if at home you can plug into the EHU and run it for 6 hours a day on a timer.this charges the battery and runs our tiny dehumidifier.drain all water wherever it is.leave taps open half way.remove shower head,you can also place three large bowls of salt on the floor (not on furniture as damage can occur)to attract any moisture present.block up drain pipes to prevent creepy crawlies getting in.leave fridge door wide open after cleaning with strong antibacterial to prevent mould/mold growth.place gas regulators in an old sock to keep out spiders and such.

I leave everything except food in the van. But I do have a dehumidifier that I run from time to time just to make sure everything stays dry.

I am going on a trip next week and the dehumidifier has been running for the last week. It has taken about 7 litres of water out of the van so, despite it being kept under cover, the furnishings do attract any moisture in the air.

In light of this, I would advise you that if you intend to staore the van for any length of time, either invest in a good dehumidifier or take the soft furnishings into the house and store them there.
