We have just got back from kiln park in tenby and could not get a decent reception on our freeview tv,could anyone recommend a decent satelite system for the caravan,we have been looking at the one sold by maplins but still undecided can anyone help thank you...
good thing about maplins one is that it comes with a suction attachment that your throw on top of van so the dish is then out of the way, no need to buy a sat finder etc all you need is a compass. the reciever has a facility on it to inicate the signal strengh, as I found out after buying the finder.
all it takes is a little patience and small use of compass I can now lock onto a sat either astra 19e or 28e within minutes of setting up dish on roof , running coax through roof lite or window etc. hope this helps
It's really easy to set up. Even OH, bless him, can do it on his own Finding the satellite position takes 2 secs as it has a little led that is red then flashes orange then goes green when sorted ! OH got to watch the England footy game on ITV in the Vendee 2 weeks ago and was ecstatic ! Worth every penny !
Going off at a slight tangent, I'm currently using a bog standard Sky Digibox at home. I'm thinking of upgrading to Sky+ and was wondering if my existing Sky box would work without the viewers card to pick up non Sky channels when away in the caravan?
You may need a freesat card which is a one off fee of £20.00. Call sky and they can supply it and you will then be able to tune into your home news if you wish by setting it for your home post code.
If you buy the Maplins kit (or Lidl equivalent) you can get a tripod speaker stand from Maplins for about £15, the dish clamps to it! Just peg it down with some bungees or guy rope-much cheaper than special sat dish tripod, and they are lightweight too!
