Hello,

I would appreciate some guidance please on the yearly service:

Hope you can help!!!

1) How far in advance do you need to book a service?

2) How long generally does a service take?

I don't want to book my summer holiday if it needs to be elsewhere for a service over a period of time

Any more advice would be brilliant as we have never had to have a caravan serviced before and are not sure how to plan it

Thanks

Have mine done by an accredited mobile mechanic. Takes a couple of hours and usually book about 4 weeks in advance.

I usually book early ie Nov for an early Feb service done at an approved workshop.  Drop off at around 8.30 usually done by lunchtime, certainly by the end of the day.  When the warranty is up I sahll probably revert to the mobile service I used to use before we had new vans.

It don't take long to service a caravan, you can get a mobile mechanic to come to your home or you can take the caravan to a workshop. The busiest time for servicing will be start of season say March/April but theres nowt to stop you having it done in Nov/Dec if you want so you won't have to wait so long.

Likewise, but we usually take ours to an approved service centre.

When we bought our new 'van we asked about when we should book it in for its 1st service and was told to not book it in more than a month before it is due.  We picked it up on the 10th July and normally take our holidays during the school holidays so we have from the 10th June to book it in.

Phone your dealer who will tell you when to book it in.  Most people will prefer to book it in over the winter month's so that it is ready for the season and your dealer may be busier at certain times of the year.

It goes without saying that if you want the service doing at a time of your own choosing then aim to book well in advance. If you ring someone and they can come within a day or two then maybe you should look elsewhere...!

If it's of any help, between January and August our Diary is booked 4-6 weeks in advance.

A full comprehensive takes about 2&1/2 - 3 hours for an engineer working on their own.

A mobile workshop that's worth it's salt can carry out the service either at your home, at a storage yard or on a campsite pitch.

Happy to Help

Hi All,

That's brilliant - I didn't realise that you could have a mobile service! What sort of price do they charge?

Our caravan is at a storage yard , but (apologies if it's a daft question)- what sort of access do they need i.e. space around the caravan etc. as it is quite tight where we are?

How far before the first year is up can you have a service?

Thanks again!

Yvonne

please check with the maker of your caravan before embarking on this route, they may not agree and you can lose your warranty.they will also need to know who it is that is going to do the work.we use a mobile service engineer but this has been checked with the insurance company,CClub.this is a requirement for super 5cs new for old over 10 years.

you must also check if your caravan is in storage that the owners will allow work to be done in the storage compound. Cetainly mine will not.

Yet again people are still being dupped by this utter loads of rubbish. ANY CARAVAN can be serviced by ANY Workshop that's Approved by the National Caravan Council NCC Approved Workshop List 2009. You will probably also find that the Approved Mobile guy is much cheaper than the Dealer.

The Dealers will tell you that you have to take them back to them so that they can get the After Sales income from you, some of the manufacturers will also tell you thsi so that they can support their dealer networks. To be frank, it's utter B-ll-cks.

If you need futher reassurance ring the NCC and ask them.

However, if you were to seacrh for a mobile workshop on that other outfits web site be very carefull as many of them are not approved by anyone, more of a 'man with a van' set up.

maybe rubbish to you but after reading these post for 8 years i know this to be true, checks need doing,if there is anyway they can get out of paying for a new front or rear end due to water ingress or cracks for using the wrong type of service this could be the stumbling block.IF i had a new caravan from any of the suppliers of caravans i would want it in writing and signed that i can use a mobile fitter,NCC or not.for the cost of phone call you can save yourself the worry.i use a mobile caravan engineer myself but mine is not a new one.

I  got it in writing that I can use any NCC approved workshop and or service engineer, mobile or other, from Kelly ages ago.

Problem is a lot of people are duped into thinking they have to take it back to the dealer they bought it from. If they bought it at the caravan show from a dealer a long way from home, that could mean many miles of travel just to get a service every year.

Of course if there are faults found then it will have to go back  to have the work done under warranty.
