Having just changed my caravan and knowing how important nose weight is I decided to by a nose weight checker from e.bay, thinking the bathroom scales looked a bit out of place. First trip out checked the nose weight 70 Kg (max for my van 75 Kg) great spent a week in the van then on leaving decided to check nose weight again, PANIC almost 100Kg moved things around and emptied water from heater, still could not get the NW less than 90Kg. So as we were not that far from home I towed it back to storage and checked again, still 90Kg +. After a sleepless night I returned to storage with bathroom scales 70Kg, checked with my fancy new toy still 90+. So it’s back to the old bathroom scales for me.
I just thought people should be aware of this. At least I can check the bathroom scales for accuracy.

had the same problem with mine.using the gauge (£15) was ok and fitted correctly ie. caravan level and a small block of wood on the underside.i got 90 kgs.yes fine i can manage 92 kgs.then i found if you push down the gauge it would read whatever you wanted and stay there,if you pull up the gauge would read whatever you wanted and stay there too.for this reason i have lost confidence in it.i still use it but now take the first figure given.bathroom scales well thats another story, mine were squashed to bits when i tried.lol.

We use bathroom scales.

I know within a couple of pounds what I weigh, (wish i didnt)so it is a simple task to double check they are working ok.

I would buy the proper jobbie but there are so many of them, and until you guys on here agree on a good one, we will stick to the scales!

I almost bought a cheap (£10) scales in a shop at the weekend but it looked like it had been made by my 6 year-old son! 17

I almost bought the £25 version (whoa, really splashing out now) but decided to wait (not sure what for, but anyway).

Is this a common issue with any nosewieght gauge? Is there a recommended (cheap) version or should I just go for the bathroom scales option?

I use piece of half inch ply with a short piece of old wood curtain pole, this is screwed to the ply and supported by a collar. I use this on firm ground on bathroom scales with the pole into the hitch and get my n/weight down to 72/73 kg before my journey, I leave the scales at home and on my return journey I load as before.

Yep! that's what I do. it seems to work fine and you can always cross check the old bathroom scale agains the new one for accuracy.
