Just got back from 1400 miles towing around the south. when you overtake a slow lorry they very often flash when you are passed to say you can pull in. I do the same when overtaken by a long vehicle.
Not once did anyone towing a caravan flash me. This I thought was surprising. Do you flash others?

On the very rare occasions I get overtaken, yes, but I overtook dozens of trucks on Saturday and only one bothered to flash me in.
Truck drivers ain`t what they used to be!
Dont bother flashing trucks on a Saturday its a waste of time
Let me explain
Saturdays are for brand new agency drivers driving supermarket trucks
they dont really know their left from their right!
Us proper lorry drivers dont work weekends cos We are away in our Tin tents !
i always flash lorries and caravans in mine you i use to be a lorry driver it makes the motorways flow better if the slow vehicles move over as soon as possible.
Yes, my grandad was a lorry driver, he always taught my father to flash a long vehicle and he taught me. There was a time when it was universally accepted as the norm but these days it's one of those niceties that has fallen by the wayside for most.
The other thing I notice is when you flash a British lorry clear they always give a flash back in appreciation. Not something that happens with the foreign ones very often and even less often again will a caravanner thank you.
It all reinforces my saddened mind that caravanning is not what it used to be. I thought it was much better before EHU, microwave ovens, motor movers, leisure batteries etc... Am I the only one who preferred old school caravanning? What was wrong with one gas ring and a gas lamp?

It wasn't referring to the "Get out of my way" flash, but the "You are clear of my vehicle and have room to pull in front of me" flash.
oh so you let slow vehicles pull over in front of you do you then? cause if you are the slow vehicle then you dont need to pull over anywhere do you? as the faster vehicle is going to go past and then pull in front of you if and when you allow him to do so or FLASH him in!!
If someone towing a caravan overtakes me when I am travelling at 60 mph rather than flash them, I increase my speed to prevent them pulling in in the hope that I can watch a real live snake happen. Hopefully I will have a video camera with me and I can then sell the footage to Top Gear for a tidy sum as JC just loves smashed up caravans. May even get a bonus if they write off the vehicle and caravan. :-)
