I did it for the first time. Towed the van to the site and set up all alone. I took my brother for moral support and he put the quick clips on the inside of the awning for me as I left my step ladders behind but other than that I did everything myself!! I am so proud of myself. Must remember step ladders next time tho!!!!
I know its silly but I am really proud of myself. I just wanted to share my joy!!
I only took my brother cos I am only just over 5 foot and wasn't sure if I could reach to put the clips on even with my step ladders but I did everything else myself. The towing wasn't too bad at all and when I got to the site he had put us on a pitch that I could drive straight across so I didn't need to reverse but I think even if I do have to next time I will just take my time, it will be fine.
It is brilliant though because my husband is a teacher and is having to do several residential courses over the next 12 months. I shall just disappear with the caravan whilst he is gone now I know I can do it. Dead chuffed.
I always do mine alone while the OH shouts abuse at me. In fairness though I don't often put the awning up but do that alone on the rare occasions it goes up.
Good for you. Really jealous, I'll have to work up the courage to do this too as my husbands changing jobs and may have to work away month on/off. Don't want to miss out on holidays so thinking about doing a towing course to boost confidence. Not worried about when I'm on site, but the getting there does!
I hooked the van on on saturday, towed it for the first time, I was so chuffed with myself. It was only our second adventure in it, but thought I had better start doing stuff myself as OH oesn't get every weekend away
well done. I always tow and set up myself. I have it down to a fine art now and can set up in about 1/2 hr.
The only thing I do struggle with is reversing. Usually the site owners are pretty good at guiding me in. Failing that the van is pretty light so I just unhitch and push it in by hand.
