Hi there, Just to pose another question to all you lovely people 17

My front window on the caravan has two metal things either side of it, which I think are called permafix auto stays, they have little groves on them, which i assume is to keep the window open.  How do they work? We can see no way or extra bit to put in them and make them stay open.  Would it be better to change them to the type where you have a knob at the top and tighten? All of the other windows have the type where you tighten the knob. It would be great to give Dobba a good airing, we just can't work it out 17 It has driven us mad trying to work it out and as you all know by now, we ain't got a clue 17

Any help would be great, we have learnt so much about caravanning from this site. I recomend this site to all the people we see on our travels 17

when you lift the window they should click to lock the window in place. they normally have about 3 to 4 settings so that the windows can stay open to various degrees. You have to fully open it up to close it back down again.

sometimes they either stick open or stick closed and a spray of aerosol grease normally solves it. Don't use WD40 as it gets a bit sticky with time.

If you open them too far (and I mean you have to force them to their limits and beyond)then the little metal clips that hold the window can come out and the only way forward is replacement. We had this problem and they were replaced under warranty. They were stuck in the open position and the only way I could find to close them was to force it open further than it should. It was only after that that I found out about the lubricating them sorts this out. I have never had any problems since

I hope this helps

Thanks you so much.  That explains alot. It will stop us scratching out head wondering if we are missing something!! Looks like a new one. I might just change it to the ones with knobs on so that they tighten securley, not sure yet will have to have a think. Many thanks 17
