While we were away for our first trip it was quite windy and our van roof was making a terrible racket - sounded like Rolf Harris playing one of his pieces of metal - is this normal? It just seemed to be a the front end of the van.

When it rains you hear the raindrops! When the wind blows you hear it whistle too! But remember - you are camping! In a hotel you will hear none of these things. On a campsite you will - but remember your van is your holiday home with everything in it you want. Instead of a holiday where you are supplied with what the owner of the accommodation gives you, you can choose what is essential and what is pointless. If it was soundproof it would be so heavy you would need a huge car to tow it. Get used to the noise of the wind/rain and believe it or not you can enjoy being in the van, warm and dry, listening to mother nature throwing a fit outside! And while you listen, you can read your favorite book, or listen to the radio, or watch tv (even satalite tv is possible), and enjoy the freedom of your own perfect holiday home - all be it a bit more noisey than a hotel room (if you are lucky and get a quiet hotel hehehe). And how many hotels have an outside garden you can enjoy in the (hopefully) nice weather for free? All campsites give you this for free! But a bit of noise from wind/rain is normal in a caravan. But if you think that is bad - try a tent - they a proper noisey ROFL!!!

the worst thing is when your "mate" when up early walking his mutt puts a load of bread on the roof on your van and before long you have a flock of birds tapdancing on it lol
tbh i like the noise of the wind and rain on the van, the rain si very soothing when you are going to sleep. plus it makes you glad you arent in a tent with material flapping and your kit getting damp
I used to really enjoy the sound of rain on the tent and the flapping canvas - it's one thing I'll really miss from the tent, so I'm glad to hear that there will be 'noise' on the roof of the van...
TBH, if you consider that to be an irritation, surely you're missing the point of the great outdoors and caravans?

your roof makes a noise because its not the bonded type.we had a monza that did this.we quite enjoyed the wind sounds and birds/gulls gently tap dancing on the roof.the cosy sound of rain whilst snuggled up with a gorgeous bottle of somethig.our avondale has a glass fibre roof and the sounds are very dull and missed.
