We are on our first caravan (tenting before) and I love it/her (she is called lexy). Want to go away for the October hols (only 2 nights as hub works sh*t shifts) Kids don't want to go (talking Faskally at Pitlochry, love it there) Does anyone one want to adopt 2 boys aged 12 and 9.

Boys are to scared that it will be cold (wimps), they loved it in August when we where last there, been twice this year and want a third.

Any encouragement for kids would be helpful!!!!!!!!

My advice would be to leave them with grandparents and have a couple of days away in peace.

funnily enought i have a 12 year old who didnt want to come last week, he arranged to stay at his mates himself i got a call from a mother saying he was staying there so had a weekend on our own !!. When he does come we do take the tv and games and have a Play station etc in the van, but he likes to help with the jobs setting up, bringing the water etc, we also have a dog we take so go for lots of walks,  and we do things as a family which as you probably agree everyone goes off in different directions at home, could you take their bikes ??once we are there he is fine i think,,, he thinks... he is missing something at home with his mates, and it isnt cool to be seen with us oldies hehe....ooo another point we do, is sometimes take one of his friends with us for company, maybe i could borrow yours for company for mine?? .

wishing everyone,,,,what you would wish for yourselves x

We are just getting a taste of this ourselves with my 12 yr old son, few moans and gripes before we go, although he loves it when we get there. It's just not cool to tell your friends youre going away in a caravan apparently!! I try to involve him as much as possible, we always keep travel games, packs of cards etc in the van, tv/dvd player helps. We too take our dog and have been known to let him bring a friend in weaker moments. We prefer smaller sites and having days out and about. I hit on the idea of letting him do a bit of internet research and come up with ideas for places he'd like to go, days out etc  in the area we're visiting (something I bitterly regretted whilst dangling off a wire and wearing a hard hat in the middle of Dalby Forest recently ... Im sure he planned that deliberately the little b***er!!) In the summer months, he likes his own tent and taking his own camping stuff with him (he's a scout) ... until the weather is bad and then he scuttles back into the van with us!!

Just re-read my post ... just to clarify ...the son brings a friend, not the dog!! Although I suspect that would be far less trouble. 17

I've got 3 kids.  The eldest won't come away with us unless her best friend comes with us.  She's already saying that she won't come with us next year on our 2 week holiday because we aren't taking her friend.  She will come with us whatever she says lol.  It makes our life so much easier with her friend along and means that we can go away.  Could you take his friend along?

My son who has been tenting with us for years, got to the point were he hated sleeping in a tent,so much so he didnt want to come (he is 15 so it is to be expected lol) then we got the Van,and he said he would try it just once, and if he hated it he would stay at nan's,we invisaged some quiet weekends just the two of us me and hubby cosy in the van,it was not to be lol,my son loves the van and wants to come again next weekend,it probably wont last he will get bored of that, i asked him why he likes the van and not the tent, the answer was simple its warm he has a tv and can bring his xbox!!!!!!!!!! long gone are the days where he would want to go into town and go for walks with us,but if he is still enjoying it for now,we can still have family holidays. He thinks its still un cool to go camping and dosnt tell his friends he goes in a van LOL.
