We are considering changing from a tent to a caravan and like the idea of a warm van to return to in winter.

Do caravan heaters keep the place warm in the depths of winter, to around 20 degrees C?

Is it safe to leave electric or gas heaters on overnight or whilst out during the day?

on our new caravan you can even programme the wet heating to come on while we're out sightseeing for when we get back ..warm as toast too ..

Even from cold it soon gets warmed up and in new vans you can even get electric heating so no worrying about gas.

1000watt fan heater gets mine toasty within 10 minutes, will run it overnight to keep mum warm as she feels the cauld

I would say yes. We do tend to use the electric rather than gas though. We find the gas tends to heat more efficiently, but then, if you are paying for EHU anyway use the electric.

If you are using gas for heating particularly overnight, I would suggest getting a Carbon Monoxide Detector.

We removed the truma gas/electric fire & a small fan heater does a better job. The weight saved is approx the same as a mover - a task for next season. A small dyson now sits (behind a panel) where the truma was - very desirable when you live with a golden retriever

agree would not be without one.buy a good one about £25-£30.should last 5 years.

We leave our heating on all the time-talk about getting your moneys worth!! Had a week at Bashley last year just after xmas and it was very cold-one local told me it was the coldest for over 20 years-but our 'van was toasty!! We always use electric though,never gas.

The first time we used our caravan's heating, it was soooo hot we had to turn it right down, and one of the best things is that the wardrobe, which is above the heater, was warm and therefore our clothes were toasty! Such a contrast to our camping days when your clothes always felt cold and damp!

We used our Adria over New Year 2008/2009 last year in the Dealmere forest area of Cheshire, My god was it cold and the awning froze (but outside it was so beautiful about -10 to -15°C ), but our Adria was nice and toasty. We used a Delonghi Oil filled radiator (Argos) over night and a small fan hater during the day when we were in. Both provided excellent heating. The vans own system was also capable but being an Adria only runs on Gas. Cannot wait to do it all again this Xmas/NewYear.

usually leave the heating off when out, as soon as in, gas fire on, with little fan heater, as soon as the gas one is up to toast temp, gas off electric on at 1000 and mini heater off, circ to auto on number two,. yahoooooooo
