I've had a quick look on the web and I would say the best thing to do is look in your handbook for an accurate towing weight, there are variables dependent on age and model etc.

If you do a search for your vehicle on AutoTrader.co.uk you can often get some of the technical information you may need. Best to ask your dealer to be sure but its worth a look as a quick guide.
My advice to you would be to get a Land Rover Discovery TD5, I tow on a weekly basis and have used lots of different vehicles, I think the disco is one of the most capable vehicles I have ever towed with, and contrary to popular belief in nearly 35000 miles of use have never had a single problem, I put this down to good servicing and looking after it.
