Hi there, I am sure this has been on the forum before, how do all of you who caravan throughout the winter keep the water and waste water from freezing. we were away this weekend and it was -2 this morning and there was ice on top of the water in the aquaroll.
this could be your answer but the only safe way is to remove the pump at night because it will freeze and damage it.i use the cover for the barrel.one night in march we had everything frozen, waste pipes/waste container/pump.pump socket.always keep a large bottle of fresh water inside for teeth cleaning and brews and washing hands.
We use an insulated bag for the aquaroll and extra insulation for the pump connection. If the weather is well below freezing we also use a bucket for our waste - easier to empty if it does freeze.
We try to remember to empty the waste each evening.
I hope it's not that cold when we go to Kent at half term. Had such a poor summer weather wise, I'm putting my hope in the end of October - probably foolishly!
I wrap my aquaroll with bubble wrap and an old duffel coat. and remove the pipe at night.

PEAK do an antifreeze for drinking water systems, but I don't know if it's to protect during storage then flush out, or to add and use.
Don't reckon it's to add the anti-freeze to drinking water - certainly wouldn't fancy that - have I missunderstood?

I bought a cheap duckboard to place the aquaroll on, to keep it off the cold ground, we then have an insulated jacket that we bought for it from company as listed above. The duckboard came from Asda in their bathroom section, cost about £5.99
We caravanned for the first time last yr over winter with temps down to -15°C in cheshire. We took all precaution but everything still froze, however we did have a 5 ltr collapsible container for water. We had the best of times and thought it was funny as we were not the only ones on the site having trouble, its all part of the fun. Managed to get it all unfroze after 4 days the day before coming home.
And cannot wait to do it all again this yr and Chirk CC Site.
thing is at 8 to 1 expansion the ice can do a lot of damage to your fittings at great expense.we were walking on the frozen lake at keswick, until my leg went through.lol.now that is cold.all toilets closed mains water pipes froze solid so the taps outside did not work.i was actually stood on the lake ice to take these pictures.
