I would start by buying a hitch lock - you can then add to it later if you feel inclined. The Caravan Club caravan insurance generally only ask for one security device, but it sometimes depends on the area you live and where you keep the van. Every insurance company will expect some sort of security device, and you may get premium reductions for more devices, of storeage on a Gold CASSoA storeage site.
When you go abroad, I would advise taking out travel insurance. This covers medical emergencies and basically breakdown cover. The Caravan Club do a good insurance for this too.
As a member of the Caravan Club, you can also join Green Flag car breakdown service (by paying the appropriate fee) and it includes recovery of the caravan too, should your car break down. This is called MayDay.
You can get car insurance through the Caravan Club too. I have found them very competative.
P.S. I am not employed by the Caravan Club and have no vested interest, but have found them very good at these types of insurance.
The Caravan & Camping Club have a similar range of products.
By being a member of either or both clubs you also have the facility to use their sites, which tend to be cheaper than most commercial sites, if you can put up with the quirky ways of some of the wardens.
Any more questions, I'm sure folk will be onlt too pleased to offer their support.
Hope this helps.
