hi all,if you have not drained down all waters do it now.parts of the country were minus 4 this morning.dont forget to leave taps open midway.remove shower head.

Yes, we've had a couple of nights with temperatures down to 2-3 degrees. Icy windows one norning this week, think it was Monday, bit of a shock!

silly question maybe, but we have drained our water heater, how do you drain water in the pipes without the pump running dry ???

We always drain the water system before towing - summer or winter. Having a water heater full adds quite a bit of weight.

Just open the valve on the heater and leave all the taps open (if you have mixer taps, put the lever to the central position - remember the shower!) and gravity should do the rest. You won't get the pipes dry, but this will allow for expansion of water into ice, and should help prevent problems.

cool thats what we do anyway always empty the heater and have taps open to do iot helps the water flow out quicker.

Then again if you live up here in sunny Scotland and happen to own a caravan like ours where everything, including the inboard water tank and a Whale inboard pump are all nicely insulated and there are no external pipes to freeze up, there is no need to drain anything at any time.

Ofcourse, even in this day and age, most caravans are designed and built only to be used in temperate climates where the sun never sets and the suntan lotion is close at hand 17.

Hiya,    Last year we went away in Dec and had a great time, when we got back we drained down as everyone says.... open heater valve, open all taps in middle position , remove shower head. no water left in system great,,,,, we went away in march and when we filled up wit water the shower tap was pouring water fom the body as well as the shower head, when we got back I called in the dealers (we store there as well) and was told no prob we'll sort it. when we went to pick up the van to go away I called in to get the spare keys and was told "it was frost damage to the Reich cartridge so it will cost you £25" Thank you.   I still dont know where we went wrong.17

Cheers for that voggo, as you say it seems a common fault. my sons a plumber so I'm going to see if he can come up with a mixer shower tap that is'nt ceramic inside that'll sort it out. if it happens again. atb Bill
