Will be either 17mm or 19mm. Get impact sockets & a 2 foot breaker bar & you will undo the tightest of nuts.

We carry one of these and it will remove any wheel nut on the car or the van, no matter how tight it is.

Do get him one Geejay. It comes in a case with a range of impact sockets, so it can be used for a number of jobs and is just as good at tightenung nuts as it is at removing them.

Thanks everyone.

Just gone and bought a wheel wrench from Lidls with extending handle, but wanted to make sure that it will fit.

These usually have a reversed socket on them. 19mm on one side and 17mm on the other.

I carry 2 of these in the van as I have a motor mover which is put on and off with a 17mm socket, but I am forever accidently leaving the socket bit attached to the cross-over bar and subsiquently losing the dammed thing. 17

If you even suspect the wheel bolts have been over tightened then it would be wrong to re-use them.
Simply buy new and know that they have never been over stretched. Don't lubricate them to make removal easier this can lead to between 10 and 30% over loading depending on the surface finishes and lubricant used.

That will be fine until it breaks, which it will if you get a tight nut. Tools from places like Lidls are cheap & nasty.

This will be because the ring spanner will be a good quailty item that will last a lifetime. The device in the link states it it has a torque of up to 125lbs/ft, an overtightened wheel nut could easily be tighter than that. A good quailty breaker bar/socket will always work, a cheap impact wrench may not.

I use a breaker bar and appropriate sockets in my garage but I certainly would not carry one around in the boot of the car just on the off chance that I may have a puncture.

Like any tool you get what you pay for and 12v Impact Wrenches come in different qualities, depending on your pocket.

As a caravanner, I have many uses for this tool, not just getting off tricky wheel nuts. They will wind up/down steady legs. screw in/out Wurmi pegs on the awning and I could chase the wiff roon the bunks with it when I was after a bit!!!!! 17

Like any tool, it is only when you have one that you start to find out how useful it can be, for you.

The thread is about undoing wheelnuts, not about undoing anything else, your link is to a cheap impact wrench. On the offchance you have a puncture you need something that you know will undo the wheelnuts, not something that might.

The Link was to a picture of a 12v Impact Driver so that folks would know what I was describing.

Which one they decide to buy is up to them as is what uses they also find it useful for. I am merely suggesting that as it is a 12v power tool, it may also be used for other camping and car related uses. For instance there may be other nuts elsewhere on the car that may require the use of an Impact Wrench.

As most people have only a limited amount of space, when on a trip to carry such things as tools, any tool that can do more than one job is a bonus. Some caravanners do carry a power drill to wind the steady legs and some also use Wurmi Pegs on their awnings. A power drill will not undo an overtightened wheel nut but the Impact Wrench will, while also doing other tasks.

On 2 motorhomes, 2 caravans numerous cars and my 2 classic cars, my Impact Wrench has not let me down yet.

However, if all else fails, I do have one tool in my tool kit that surpasses anything else. My RAC Arrival Card.

The point being that it is one of those tools to take with you. Breakdown, on site fix, etc,. We have all the other stuff in the garage anyway. Regards to Lobey.
