Does anyone out there know if..........when your van is at home, on the drive, with hookup connected, you can get an alarm that works Via the hookup, to tell you indoors if it is being interfered with in any way. I would have thought that somewhere someone would have produced one. Any ideas?

My friend uses a baby monitor to keep an 'eye' on his motorbike when he locks it away in the garage. I would have thought this will work in the van too.

I believe it is also possible to connect your household alarm to the van too, if you have one.

There are some freezer alarms that sound when the electricity supply is interrupted which may also be of use if it is connected inline with the hookup.

I had a simular set up in the garage for my mororbike and jet ski. Baby monitor (effectivly a webcam) that wirelessly broadcast to the base unit in the lounge. It can also be conected to the TV so you turn the TV over and saw a live picture of the garage!

our house alarm is cordless, we used to put the pir in the van.

yes you can,i have discussed it with the alarm guy who does my house alarm a few years ago.if you are on EHU or not.this works by a continuous loop from your house alarm.the number is not the same as your house alarm.a common plug is plugged into your caravan at the front and this provides the loop.if the loop is broken by unplugging the house alarm will sound until the nuber is entered.i have a wire diagram for this somewhere.

Micheal, thanks for that, but at the moment I do not have a house alarm, and I dont see how this would work (maybe I'm a bit thick) I have heard of one that works via the earth lead of mains hookup, but unable to find any info on same.

we used to have a cable alarm that was built into the main shop alarm..the idea was the cable threaded through all our outboard engines and boats, so if the cable was unlpugged/cut the alarm went off.
But as I said this was part of an alarm system, and it didnt actually run power through it, just a small voltage for the alarm system.

I'm no expert, but you might be able to rig up a relay on the van so that if you unplug the mains power then this switched on an alarm..this would need to run off the battery. i guess you would need a switch somehere to bypass this so you can unplug the cable legitimatly.

i like the idea of using a wireless system...you can get these quite cheap from the likes of maplins

if you had your 240v transformer, and it was wired to a relay (normally closed),and the relay in conjuction with your 12v battery wired to a horn, soon as the power drops from the relay it will sound the horn. if you understand what i mean.

your house alarm is plugged into the caravan at the socket for the lights on the car.when someone does try to nick your lovely little van they need to unplug the socket to drive off.when they do this your house alarm will sound.
