They are a bonded construction, that is actually stronger than screws, because it is continuous, and also therefore more waterproof.
Bonded costruction of the same type has been used in the leisure boat industry for a while, where complete ocean going hulls are bonded, and as previously stated, in the car industry.
In Formula 1 all the carbon fibre bodies are of a bonded construction, and I am sure that when we were taken around the AirBus factory in North Wales they said that the wings are bonded together.
