AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I thought that going to the NEC would help me decide what I want, lol!

Well, I've whittled it down to two main choices and two outsiders... The outsiders which I'm still yet to view are a 5th Wheel by Niche marketing with bunks.  And a Bailey Senator Carolina (which annoyingly have been discontinued).

The two I really like that I saw at the show are the:

Bailey Pegasus 546 with triple bunk end bedroom which I like because of the end bedroom, sliding wooden door and build quality/ 10 year body warranty.  It's got good extras as standard and should be bomb proof.

Elddis Crusader Tempest - which is HUGe, twion axel.  Triple bunk in the corner next to wardrobe and bathroom, with big side dinette and the biggest kitchen I've seen in a tourer.  The fridge is massive!

My heart says the Elddis as there is so much space for a growing family of five.  The bunks are slightly bigger, a kitchen you could swing several cats in.  Nice bathroom.  But my brain is remonding me of the supposed amazing build and longevity of the Pegasus.  We will e storing the caravan in a locked barn so to be honest we'd be pretty unlucky to get damp and the Elddis has a six year warranty.

What do you guys think?  I'm less bothered on the cost than on getting the right van.  the weight/size doesn't bother me either as we'll pull it with my husbands Hilux.  I want something that we won't have to change again in a hurry as our three children grow....  Oh and something where we can just have a sun shade rather than an awning as hubby HATES putting them up!

Any experience on Elddis vs Bailey?  What are they like on resale values?  Any common probs?  Hard as they are both brand new 2010 vans.

Thanks

Lisa

hmmmm my money would probably go to Elddis as really that is the one you prefer and if you keep it in a barn the body warranty probably won't ever come into play.

I also believe you will get more money back for an elddis than a Bailey.

Sorry I can't help much I'm a Sterling Girl (love the build quality and the light wood)

We have a Sterling too and love it, but would also love the big Elddis with the 2 fixed single beds, can't remember what it's called. I would buy Swift or Explorer over a Bailey any day.

Seeing as the Big E costs more money for no better fit or kit, I'd hope so. However, I wouldn't count on it.

Seems to me that you fell in love with the Eldiss but that your practical side says go for the 10 year warrenty.

We bought the Bailey Ranger GT60 540/6 earlier this year.  I fell in love with the bailey Ranger last year but when i saw the GT60 this year i "knew" she was the one.  A couple of month's later the Pegasus is unveiled with its 10 year warrenty.  Am i disppointed?  Do i wish i'd waited?  No!  I've seen the Pegasus but still love my GT60 even with its 6 year warrenty.

We have 3 kids so the triple bunk is brilliant but the kids won't want to come away with us forever and we both know that in 6 years time we will probably be looking at a new 'van just for us (and maybe 1 or 2 kids) so a 10 year warrenty is neither here nor there.

So, my point is go for the Eldiss if that is the one you really want.  6 years is a long time and children grow up and needs change and the pegasus with its 10 year warrenty may not still suit you in 10 years time.

As to the awning we have just ordered the easi porch from Outdoor Revolution with annex.  It seems quite large and looks a lot easier to put up than a huge awning.

Quite right. It's like buying a computer. You can always wait a couple of months and get a new machine that's even better and faster and has more flashing lights, but by the time that comes along maybe you should wait another couple of months... and so on.

Eventually, you just have to make the decision, pay up and jump in.

We've just ordered a Crusader Tempest, we hope it's better than our Bailey Ranger (cracked front panel, cracked rear panel, cracked front window, cracked shower trays, cracked sink, knackered charger...... that's all) we have been waiting for such a great layout like the Tempest for ages.  This obsession with fixed double beds must put off a lot of families who want to get into caravanning.

It's fair to say that Elddis can have issues as do ALL manufacturers, if you look at the forum on the Practical Caravan website there's practically a whole section for Swift owners wherby they contact the Swift group with warranty issues.

For me go for the unit that looks good, one that's pleasing on the eye will look good on the drive, on the pitch and behind the car on the Motorway. The Elddis is the one for you, those boxey yellows just don't look cool enough!!
