We went to the NEC and had a great day.  However we have come back really confused about awnings!

They vary so much in price and quality.  Every salesman we talked to persauded us that theirs was the best awning.  Do you really need to pay £1k for a ventura awning when Quest do them for half the price?  What about quest they looked good until the ventura salesman pointed out the waving zips.  So now not only does the type of fabric and poles matter, but also the quality and type of zips!.

To top it all Ventura say that along with Issabella that they are the only ones that have altered their beading to fit the pegasus.  And the sizing that Bailey give is wrong, he said don't buy one to fit 1039, but get the 1025 it fits better.

So how I am able to buy an awning that may not fit my pegasus going by Bailey data.  If I choose an awning from NR awnings and it doesn't fit they won't accept it back.

Really confused and it is taking longer to choose an awning than it did the van.

the types I am looking at are:-

NR awnins

Dorema

Quest

Ventura (really to much money)

or a cheap porch!

We started with a used Isabella, it was very good, did us for 12 seasons, we sld the van three years ago & the awning is still going. However, the amount of times we use our van per year doesn't warrant the cost of a new Isabella for us.

We did the rounds looking at various makes but didn't like the variation in the thickness of the material in some of them. We then bought our next new van & I phoned Dorema, the man there knew the size awning we required & it arrived within two days & fitted like a glove.

We sold that outfit last year & bought a new Pageant Provence series 7 this spring. We did the rounds looking at several of the makes in your list but still didn't like the quality compared with our last Dorema Senator Lux. Therefore, we called Dorema again, asked their advice & asked for thier best price. The man there told us the size we required once I told him the make, year & model of our caravan. We bought another Senator Lux & it too fits like a glove.

I have to say, I did not go into whether they'd accept it back should it not fit, I'd confirm that with them if you feel better so doing. In my opinion, it's a lovely awning. Go on their website & they've several models on offer there. Ours is the Senator Lux with fibre frame & two tall annexes. Brillaint for a family holiday.

What ever you buy I hope you like it.

What are they talking about with altered beading to suit a Pegasus. Does this mean Pegasus have a new type of beading. If so other awningss may not fit. Best to check with Bailey.

Personally I'd get a porch awning - either one of the new lightweights - sunncamp type or what we have just bought - used canvas porch from ebay £80

Plenty big enough for 2 of us. Lots of change to spend on other things.

Maybe I am just a cheapskate but who cares.

The awning rail on the Pegasus accepts standard beading. It's just that the awning rail itself doesn't stand out from the bodywork as much as a "normal" rail so it seems it's the pole brackets that are the issue. We were told that Isabella have reacted quickly and produce brackets that will fit the Pegasus correctly.

I think NR awnings are great awnings, high quality and not too expensive, measure the rail on the van and go from there. Go to the nearest bailey dealer to do it!!

Like the look of some of the lightweight awnings BUT...In July we were at the Whitley Bay CC site, Old Hartley. We had just got our awning up when the rain and wind started. It rained and blew a gale for the next 36 hours. We were up during the night to check our storm ropes and secureness of the awning.By the end of the 36 hours only three awnings were still up, ours and  two others...two were  Isabellas, the other looked like one but not sure..The lightweight ones had either been taken down or blown to bits.Unsual conditions I know but they do happen nether the less.

We have decided on a Dorema full awning.  We are still looking for a porch awnings for winter trips.    It was a really good price in the factory clearence direct from Dorema.  I phoned them up to check whether it would fit the Pegasus and they said they are going to try it on one.  They were concerned about the pads fitting, but when they tried it went on easliy.  They did say start from the front and not the back as the tight corner is easier with less material.  So £620 delivered for a 1025-1050 in fibre tech poles, varrandah pol and storm straps.  It is really thick ten cate material.

We bought a used Isabella awning a few years ago (it must have been at least 5 years old when we bought it) and it was the best standard awning we have used.  We then bought a Caravanstore and then a Zip model so sold the Isabella for the price we had paid for it.  So if you want a standard awning, look out for a used Isabella.  But - do consider a Caravanstore Zip.  The Bailey lends itself to one as it is very square at the front and so a 4.1m or even a 4.4m would work.  The big advantage is that they can be rolled away when wet, are quick and easy to put up and, with storm straps and base plate pegs, will stand any weather that the UK can throw at it.

I'd really like a wind-out awning such as the Omnistor but I'm not sure if one would fit the Pegasus.

I think that any awning will fit in the awning rail of a Pagasus it is how the poles that attach to the awning that might be a problem. We have a Sun Camp full awning where the brackets for the poles clip onto the awning beading and not the awning rail itself. These would still be able to be used with the Pegasus. As for the sizing, you could wait and check yourself by literally measuring it when you have the van. Different makes of awning seem to recommend different sizing anyway. If a van is on the borderline of two sizes one make may recommend you get the bigger size whereas another may tell you that the smaller size will be a better fit!

Spideygirl - we just bought a Dorema Montana Superlux with fibre frame at the Depot on the M62 for our Pegasus.  So snap!  They said they'd had one on a Pegasus and the fit was good ( but they are salesmen!).  My dealer also recommended Dorema but couln't match the factory offer.  We thought it was the best option price/quality wise.

I am a novice caravaner, having spent the last 20 year in tents. I have a bradcote awning for my Burstner for longer stay's but have just purchased and used a Starcamp (Dorema) porch awning. It is excellent, only takes 10mins to set up and has already coped with a large helping of Brecon Beacons wind and rain. I can't see that i will need my big awning again.
