Our last van was an Elldis Odyssey 480 (2002)
We found it to be a well thought out and put together van.
We loved it!

The only reason we sold it was we wanted a fixed bed.

Although we are happy with the Abbey, we miss the cosiness and comfort of the Elldis. It also had a lot more storage and an end bathroom.
Fixed beds take up a lot of space!

Ah well!

I think they're cracking vans, our previous van was a 2002 Elddis that still looked new despite being 7 years old and our Compass is part of the Elddis group and I can honestly say I didn't see a single van at the NEC on Saturday that came near it for quality.

I suppose there's the odd turkey out there but I'll always choose from the Elddis group in future.

It's in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. I thought the Eldiss vans at the NEC were particularly poor - creaking doors, nasty plastic-trimmed upholstery, bits hanging off. All that and a couple of thousand quid over the price of comparible Bailey.

I've had three of them - a Gulfstream, a Typhoon and currently an Avante 482. All of them first rate. When you walk into the Avante, it's still got that new wood smell about it and it's five and a half years old!

Have looked at other mainstream 'vans over the years and IMHO none of them can hold a candle to the Elddis brand.

We have an Elddis Crown Regent which is their low rent version from the nineties.  It is still going strong although we are looking to move into the current decade's vans now.

If we saw a secondhand Elddis we would certainly consider it.

We have a Compass (also Explorer Group - just an Elddis with different coloured cushions!) - we've had it 3 years and love it.  We went to the NEC last week and I can honestly say the only 'vans I saw that had 'it' were the Elddis caravans and my dream Celtic Rambler (oh - and a huge £67,000 motorhome!).

It's in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. I thought the Eldiss vans at the NEC were particularly poor - creaking doors, nasty plastic-trimmed upholstery, bits hanging off. All that and a couple of thousand quid over the price of comparible Bailey.

The only vans we saw with "bits hanging off" was the new Bailey Pegasus, as was posted by a few people on the Pegasus thread on here, however I do understand there were literally thousands of people trampling in and out of the vans and was often 10 or more people in the vans at a time so its more than the average amount of wear and tear for a van, my issue with the Pegasus though was the quality of the external fittings, where every one had the sealant peeling off and the mouldings were all loose.

I also personally am not keen the Bailey woodwork, it's too light for my tastes and I dont like the fact they dont fit handles, it always gives the impression of a vast expanse of "Beech" and is too "Ikea" for me.

We use ours most weekends in the summer plus a few "week" breaks and do like to spend a lot of our time in the van so we like a more "cosy" feel which in our opinion is found in the Elddis vans.

I was impressed too with the Adria, I liked their twin bed model in which you could slide the beds together to make an island bed. Nice to see a manufacturer trying something new.

As I say, it's horses for courses, different strokes, and you pays yer money and takes yer choice. Personally, I couldn't wait to get out of the Eldiss vans - they just felt "wrong" to me. I got a similar feeling in the Swifts, but liked the Lunars and Baileys.

Thank goodness there's enough choice to please most people.

I like the Lunars too, they seem to do different things, they've stopped the black privacy windows though which is a shame, it'd have been nice to see more of the foreign vans there. I see Hobby had the motorhomes there but not any caravans.

I agree thats its each to their own choice and most manufacturers produce very similar caravans these days but with their own touch. However, I also agree with an earlier comment regarding the Bailey Caravan which I thought seemed to be much poorer quality to the likes of Swift & Elddis. Sorry Bailey owners but I just don't like Baileys (Shape & Colour) and the 'revolutionary Pegasus' seems to have gone back in time and has a Retro look to it but I know they are very popular.
