My concern here, more than the problem of it dropping when travelling which can be worked round, would be that if the clamp isn't holding the jockey wheel up when travelling, how on earth does it hold it in the right place when there is weight on it? I would want this sorting out by the dealer.

It could be that the handle you do up runs out of thread before it fully tightens the clamp on the shaft hence it slides down when travelling . Question, do you find that the handle is loose when the wheel has come down ?
Was it you we saw when coming up the M6 23rd August? if so I remember waving at you whilst passing to draw your attention to it! you then pulled over.
If not maybe there's a bad batch of jockey wheels out there!
no we were on the M50 but we recognise it straight away as it starts to drag.
it is still tight when we stop to refasten it. we have to untighten then relift into possition and tighten as hard as possible.
we shall contact the dealer now just before we take it for our first service we are not using it again until the new year. our dealer isnt local to where we live so its best to have servie at the same time.
It sounds like a problem with the clamp itself. Perhaps a burr on the inside edge or slightly bent. This needs looking into by removing the A-frame fairing.
It sounds like the clamp bolt needs replacing. It sounds like it is either too long, dous not have enough thread or the thread is damaged. In the meantime, you could completely remove the bolt and plack the thread up with some washers. If that overcomes the problem then my theory is correct, other wise it is damage to the clamp or jockey wheel itself. If could well be that the jockey wheel and clamp were damaged the first time it happened.
Is it possible that the jockey wheel was not fully wound up just once or that the clamp was not fully tightened once which allowed the jockey wheel to come down and that caused the clamp or jockey wheel to become damaged?

im not sure about this one. i always think you shouldnt over tighten. but after it happened the first time we have been very carefull to tighten as much as we can. yes we always lift it right up.
we have been out with the van approx 6 times since we have had it and it has happened 4 times now. we dont drive too fast i think the road vibration must cause it,
when we left our site on thurs i said to the Oh make sure you tighten the wheel very tight. it was only an hour and a half from home , we were about half way. you can feel and hear it a soon as it drops we recognise it now and pull over as soon as we can. to fix it . i might give the dealer a ring to see if he can give me information on the phone.

This makes me think that Steve has got it right (below), or the plate pressing against the shaft is too thin or worn; it sounds as though the bolt is screwed in to the very end of its thread...

Possibly the shaft of the jockey wheel is slightly too small for the holding bracket so that you are tightening the bracket to its max without clamping tighter around the shaft...
