We are thinking of buying a Lunar caravan about 2 to 3 years old. Is the warranty transferable? The body shell warranty will cover any damp will it not? Just worried about the dreaded damp.

Unless Lunar have changed their policy since 2004 they won't transfer any guarantee,

Not just Lunar, we were unable to take over the warrantly on our Adria when we bought it second hand, it was only 18 months old. But it didn't stop us buying it and we've not regretted it and haven't needed the warranty (so far anyway! - famous last words!).

You can transfer warranties on Swift also Bailey.Since 2006 apparently.Still need to know if Lunar will. With Swift you have to notify them within 30 days of change of ownership.

We bought a 2005 bailey pageant 18mths ago.  Salesman didn't mention transfering the warranty but I had read somewhere that you could do that.  Just as well we did, first service we were informed that the front had damp and the whole front panel had to be replaced.  Common problem with 2005 baileys apparantly.  Bailey coughed up no trouble, stood the cost of the whole thing.

I transferred my Bailey warranty but am now concerned about the Lunar which I bought new - it would be a good selling point to sell later with say 6 months warranty .

Exactly what I thought. We have just sold our 16mth old Swift caravan.Having a transferable warranty obviously helped to sell it. It gives piece of mind to the new owner. If a Lunar warranty is not transferable we will not be buying a secondhand Lunar.Needless to say we will not be buying a new one either. It would not be easy to sell privately without a warranty when we came to change it..Pity because the lighter weight of the Lunar appealed to us.

We have been lucky with our Lunar and have had no serious problems with it.  It was less than a year old when we bought it, I wrote to La Lunar and got a very terse reply along the lines of ' Of course we don't transfer guarantees- whatever next'.  Now in hindsight I too would't buy a van with a non tranferrable guarantee or service history especially if it was not as old as the guarantee period.

You would of course have to check with Lunar but that was the situation 5 years ago.

Right!! Rang Lunar so this is from the horse's mouth. All caravans from 2009 models now have a transferable warranty. Any vans before this do not. Even a van bought in 2008 can have its warranty transfered as long as it is a 2009 model.

Spoke to Swift as well. Their warranties have always been transferable BUT it was only a three year one up to 2007.So vans from then have a six year one.

Rang Bailey as well but they are closed for the lunch hour. Not very customer friendly!!! What happens if you want to ring them during your lunch hour?
