Hi Everyone,

We have just taken delivery of our new sterling ruby for 2010 on Saturday and manaaged to get a night away. We are extremely pleased and love our new fixed bed which is what we wanted to exchange from our bailey provence. Our two boys were fine on the beds at the front as normal.  We absolutely love the roomy end bathroom and cant wait to get away more often now.

Just a question for those with fixed beds how much do you store away under the bed when travelling as we dont want to overload the back end of the caravan.  Also when making the bed we noticed how tight it was to get sheets tucked in etc has anyone tried moving the mattress off the bed to make it easier we did try and thought how the hell did they get this mattress in make the caravan around it lol, it was a little difficult but, I suppose in time we shall get used to it will we.

But on the whole we absolutely love it!!!

Yorkie

Yorkie

We have the Swift Archway Rockingham which is based on the Charisma 550 so similar to your van although yours is slightly longer. When I first started to load the van I was also concerned about putting too much under the bed but unless you want an unacceptable noseweight you do have to make use of the under bed space. Also the space is hardly at the back of the van. When we had a Topaz we used to put all our clothes in the wardrobe which was at the back of the van. The best way is to put anything heavy at the axle end of the bed and lighter things towards the back. On your point about the sheets which I agree are difficult to fit I once went outside the van and fitted the corners through the window!

I love having underbed storage, in ours are 2 chairs, 2 windbreaks, ironing board, wastemaster, toaster, vac, ground sheet & spare EHU leads. We put the awning and poles across the axle in the van when we travel.

Ours is a transverse bed and it was a bit fiddly fitting the sheet so across the back I just tuck it down and at the sides too instead of trying to get it under the mattress and it never budges.

Hello Yorkie and June, we get our new Ruby 21st Nov. Very excited. We're new to caravanning. I've so enjoyed 'kitting' her out. Picking her up - then straight off on our first trip. Gulp.
Great times ahead - me thinks !!

We used to make the bed up by opening the window and doing it from outside when we had a van with a side bed. Now have an island bed which is easier.

Hi June and Susie,

We wernt supposed to get ours until the second week in December, but the catterick caravans rang us last week to say it was in.

I hope you both get the enjoyment we had, straight from the dealer to a caravan club site 3 miles away.

Susie I am sure you will love your new van, and good luck to caravanning

Hi Yorkie - I know I will love caravanning. I am a little dissapointed with the bed problem. Haven't had a go at 'making' the bed yet... I've brought fitted sheets and a fab throw which I wont be able to return now cause I've had them too long.

Hi Susie,

I dont think your fitted sheet will be a problem  we had a brand new fitted sheet that we hadnt used at home and tried it on the bed, to be honest it fitted well, its just trying to get it on the bed.  I think the window idea is ok but, at the moment i suppose the mattress being so new its all very tight and stiff and it doesn't seem to move much to get the bedding on but boy its such a nice feeling to climb into bed instead of making them up and as i go to bed first its just a dream for me to not worry anyone else.  I think its a great choice of caravan and we are soooooooo pleased with it.  Getting to the storage under the bed is fantastic too.  Love it!!!!

Enjoy when you get yours it wont be long
