The trouble with walking on the roof would be leaving mucky prints on a nice clean surface, then you'd have to lean over an wipe them. Of course you could step on a magic mat!
Last time my ranger needed cleaning I climbed onto the roof to do it. I did the furthest corner first, worked my way back to where the ladder was and then used the hose to rinse it off - no marks left!
What ever caravan I had I would not stand on a wet, soapy slippery metal roof 2.5 plus metres from the ground and with no safety rail. I shudder at the thought of people even thinking about doing it; I personally am not looking to be disabled and so inhibiting our caravanning.

You will only fall off once ;0)
Absolutely! And you can bet if anyone's going to fall off, it will be me! That's why I wouldn't risk it.
you`ve just as much scope for injury falling off a stepladder or similar while attempting to clean a van roof that way, constantly up and down the steps with a bucket or hose or whatever as you make your way round the van.....

i have friend who is a roofer and goes as high as anyone.a lack of concentration one day and he fell of a low garage roof and broke his arm and his hip.18 months later and just going back to work after this.safer to use a ladder and a long mop/brush.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Just stop and reconsider how far you fall from the caravan roof compared to from the step ladder, about 2.5 times as high, then you will appreciate the fallacy in your statement.
Yes of course you can fall off a step ladder, the more so if your daft enough to climb up with a bucket of water. However from the height involved, feet about a metre up, your likely to have only your pride injured. Try slipping off the roof and there is no chance its only your pride.
I have a Gardena extension brush and a solid lean-to ladder with anti slip treads, somewhat safer that being on the roof I think.
