Has anyone got one ?. We are thinking of picking one up over the winter, probably an 08 or 09 with the silver sides and would love to hear what folks think of them. The only concern we have is a slightly cramped lounge area and with 2 largish kids who will be us for a few years yet, I guess that is important.

We have just bought a 2004 Searcher, I have been in a 2008 Searcher too that belongs to friends.  The parallel lounge is quite cramped for 4 people and apart from the fixed bed, you have no other slounge space.  Ours has the L shaped lounge and it is quite spacious.

Have you considered something with a double dinette layout that would give you and your children a distinct seating area each, they can go play games, for instance whilst you cook dinner?

I have just purchased a 2006 Searcher Elite and am thriled with it.

It has the L shaped lounge that suits us as a family of 3 with occasional family of 6 with the awning.

The spec is superb which was what swayed me to the sterling as opposed to an almost new van of a lower spec.

Hi,

I looked at both these vans in a 2009 model or 2010 model. The front beds are only 5 ft 2  and 5ft long if used as singles.

I often take my grandmother withy me in the van, as well as my 14 year old daughter. To get them to sleep comfortably, i needed to make a double bed up, which defeated the object of moving to a fixed bed to avoid making up beds and wasn't very practical to have them sharing a bed.

I spent months searching for a van which ahd all the spec of the searcher,  but with 6ft beds - i could only find a 2010 eldiss or buccanneer.

L shaped lounges didn't give the sleeping arrangements either.

The main issue for you is the size of your kids. If they are bigger than 5ft and want to sleep in the van then it wont work. (I wish it did as i loved the searcher but couldn't justify making a double bed up for my daughter every night)

Good luck

Steve

Hmmm, sound like you are all confirming my fears. The front beds are just too short for singles. we alreday have an Abbey 520 with side dinette but the kids are getting a bit big for the bunk and the wife really wants a fixed bed rear bathroom layout. Such a shame because I love the spec and the look of these two vans.

Hi,

I ended up buying the Buccanneer Schooner for the reasons mentioned above.

Should get it in 4 weeks!

Hi, you could look at the Sterling Coral 2010 model. We have just bought a Sterling Ruby 2010 and we chose it as it is a single axle, as the coral is a twin axle and we prefer the single axle for us in the future. our kids are 15 and 13. they could fit on the seats at night as one is longer than the other, and in the summer they are both in the awning.
Good luck with your search

Colin
