We used to have a Freedom and as said they are very lightweight. However there other options which are less of a compromise; for example our current caravan is far bigger than the Freedom, it is a three berth with a washroom, but it is still only 650kg unladen 850kg max. It is a 2000 ABI Adventurer - see my gallery for pics. It has a quirkly layout which is not for everyone, and there are not many about, but I suggest you need to think beyond the Freedom and Eriba suggestions if you want space.

The problem of the Freedom is that it does not have a "pop top", and therefore offers a greater wind resistance. So what you save in weight is lost in wind resistance.

we have an ABI Adventurer and love it, so easy to tow and the layout works well for us a couple of oldies,we have a fiamma canopy on side and a awning that fits on back.we like the eriba but they are costly to buy, our adventurer is a 2001 and we picked it up 18months ago in vgc with canopy and awning and loads of extras for £2300

Some Freedom models have pop tops, some don't.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
If you're looking for all the bells and whistles then the Fleurette, or later the Trigano Silver models have them all.
Ours weights in at 740kg unladen, 1000kg fully laden. In theory our Hyundai i20 1.4 can tow it fully laden. It comes with:
Bathroom with cassette toilet and shower.
Hot and cold water
4 burner cooker and grill (no oven though)
Fridge with freezer compartment.
Warm air gas heating
Its fully insulated, including the pop-up sides.
Ours has a U shaped seating area which makes up into a bed 6' 6" by 6' 6"
Spare wheel plus room for 2 gas bottles in front locker.
Have adapted ours to have onboard as well as external water by using the included water bottle in the front locker. Great for toilet stops en-route.
Huge amount of storage space. All our bedding and the memory foam topper roll up and drop down into the full width front seat locker. Full sized awning goes into a side locker next to the wheel arch.
With the top down, it is under 2m high, so tows superbly (and you don't have to pay for the caravan on the peage in France), plus its a doddle to clean the roof.
