hi all in a bit of a dilema over which is the best towcar between a ford focus estate 2.0lt tdi ghia estate or a volvo v50 2.0ltr estate both on 06 plates i now the tow weights are relatively the same at about 1100kg this isn't a problem as our van is only lightwieght (950kg) .i know the insurance is slightly more expensive on the volvo but this is the only downside i can find between them .Our towcar at the moment is a 01 focus estate 1.8 petrol which served us well for the last 4yrs but is getting a little tired & i fancy a diesel this time Can anyone HELP!!!!!!!!!!
I'd go Volvo but that's only because Fords don't appeal lol! I take it you mean the 85% weights are around 1100 kg because by my calcs the Volvo's kerbweight is nearer 1400 kg.

I thought Volvo were owned by Ford! Volvo's have a pretty good reputation as towcars and if its heavier than the Escort I think that would tip the balance for me. You could always check out the relative towing credentials here www.whattowcar.com
Don't think there is anything wrong with either but there are an awful lot of focus's(or is it foci) around. One day you will want to sell it and I think the volvo will be an easier sell.
autoquake online has a volvo v50 on a 06 plate for £5500 only prob milage little on the high side at 92000 & u ave to pickup in birmingham (160 mile round trip) has full s/history cheapest i've found up to now local dealer wants £7500 for the same year but only 80000 miles thxs ian
thxs dragon that's one of my worries i've had my current focus for the last 4yrs with no major probs & have serviced myself and sorted anyother probs myself dearest fix was £400 for waterpump & timing belt last year just wouldn't like to think that would cost on a volvo
