Hi all,

I have read the manual and noted that the only way to empty the flush water tank is to manually use the pump handle until no more water comes out. Last time I had to operate the pump about 50 times which does seem a bit "wearing" on the parts and I was wondering if there is another method for this type.

My previous Thetford cassette unit allowed you to remove the level indicator at side near door to drain the flush tank but this model doesn't have this.

Next time away I have decided not to fill the tank with so much water (7 litres) so although it will mean possibly topping up during a 4 night stay somewhere it would be preferable to having to operate the hand pump to drain the flush tank so many times - possibly wearing out the seals etc.

ps wish this damn wind would drop it is cutting down my "winter" touring - won't tow in gusty conditions when over 40mph or am I a wimp?

look inside the toilet compartment to see if there is a rubber plug you can remove to drain it.there is on ours. if so place rags inside to catch any water you miss.

I'm not a fan of this method, pumping out the fresh into the waste. Our old toilet used the level tube to drain the flush tank.
On our new van I remove the cassette and put a washing up basin in the compartment, then pull out the rubber stopper.
ours is at the top left hand side of the compartment.

I still have to mop up with a cloth as you can never collect all of the water. It is a bad design in my opinion. I have thought of putting a small valve in place of the rubber stopper with connection to add a small length of plastic tubing.

I'm amazed that some caravanners travel with a nearly full head tank. Why tow the extra weight?

I try to ensure enough in the head tank for emergencies/usage en route (about half a litre).

I know roughly how long a litre lasts us and estimate the usage for a stay before I (partly) fill up.

find a straight connector to fit the hole and fit a tube to it.works fine.you still lose a tiny bit,its a push fit.

Surely you don't need to empty it completely? If it freezes then they will be enough room for the ice to expand. I have never bothered to completely drain ours. I get what I can out with the drain plug and have not had a problem.

We're in exactly the same boat. We cancelled our trip to Terversal 2 weeks ago because of the wind. Can't wait to get away but, like yourself, we are really not willing to tow in this wind. Mind you this morning looks quite calm, so hopefully we will be off to Cambridge this weekend and a trip to Duxford Museum ! I think the trick is to ignore the weather forecast too and just judge it on the day ! Fingers Crossed !

Hey hey - finally managed to do a 'quote' without messing it up completely !

at 8-1 expansion the ice can do a lot of damage to pipes and fittings.as you can not see where the water is it is best to fully drain.the usual place to fault is the non return valves as these retain a tiny bit of water.

Thanks to all responders.....I have now found the rubber bung mentioned in the tank wall and will do what Michael suggested and make-up a tube fitting inserted into the hole in tank and come up with some form of plug for the end - it shouldn't be too difficult.

At least that way I can make sure tank is fully drained as I agree about the potential for ice damage if not fully drained.

Michael suggested and make-up a tube fitting inserted into the hole in tank and come up with some form of plug for the end -

i remove it after draining and leave it at one side in the toilet compartment for use when leaving the site.a i said its just a push fit.and then refit the plug.

Hi Thetford say there's no drain pipe available for c200
There is ! I've had 2 vans with theses toilets and have used this fix buy a c2 right-hand drain tube remove the coller of the tube remove the plastic site tube
Pull out your drain plug and leave it dangling put washing up liquid around the push in part of c2 tube it's tight push into drain plug hole if a small water tap like a water irrigation tap at the end you removed the site tube done you can also fit a bit of pipe too other end of tap to make it longer

Now to drain just open the tap and hang pipe outside the door
