Hello just wanted to warn people about a seller on ebay whom i bought my van from. He is a lying toad and is not to be trusted!!! he goes by the name of ******. At the moment he has an Abbey spectrum on there, i doubt very much anything he says about it is true.....he fed me a line with my van and all sorts was wrong with it .
****** Edited as it transpires the seller was not at fault,
You don't have much luck with buying vans Stephysue. If I was you I would be a little more discerning, grab a damp meter, avoid fleabay like the plague and find a nice little number from somebody that is giving up perhaps?

he must have a job lot of fabric to re-upholster with.nearly all his vans are fitted with it.
somebody on here as shown an interest in what i believe to be this spectrum, hope he either reads this or has a good poke around before parting with the hard earned !!!!

He has first class feedback, so I wonder who is lying?
Well it certainly isnt me!!!!! Unless you mean someone is lying for him? i think whats happening is people think all is well, leave good feed back, then as the days go on they start finding faults (if there are any). I may well be the unlucky one that bought a lemon from him but i doubt it as i noticed he was trying to feed other people the same line about a different van only a wk after i bought mine in August. He wouldn't let me take the van for 3 days claiming it was in Swansea having the water pump fixed. needless to say it was not blooming fixed at all!! he wrote the same thing about another caravan. He also claimed mine was a 92 then i later found out it was a 90. There are too many other things to list here, check my other post re selling it.
did you not check the van yourself before you bought it, or did you just bid and hope ? I would never buy a caravan off ebay without checking over first, then my bid would reflect what I thought the van was worth, not the read up written by the seller. I always remember "Byer Beware"

Hi Bruno i stupidly trusted him because he seemed so genuine on the phone. I didn't bid, i went over to see it and offered him the cash for it. The van did look nice inside and i searched every nook & cranny for damp and didn't find any. It wasn't till days later we started noticing things weren't right. I did try contacting him but he ignored my message and because it wasn't a deal through ebay i didn't have a leg to stand on. I'm selling it on now and if i don't get about a grand for it then we'll just have to keep it and work on it ourselves. Next time i will ask to see everything working and will bring my own electric lead and gas bottle so there's no excuses for them. If they say sorry i can't show all working then i just wont go and see!
He does have good feedback but he sells quite a lot of vans. Everyone else seems happy but I would guess he is taking older dealer PX's and selling them on. I would question just how much he knows about each van he has selling.
If you are selling it on no doubt you are being honest about it.
It might be worth you taking some legal advice on this. If he is selling multiple vans then he is a trader and cannot say they are private sales. If he has not described it fairly and accurately you may have some comeback.

Very honest about it steve! I wouldn't dream of ripping off an innocent family....unlike some!!! It really upsets me when i think about how i've been conned and i wouldn't wish that on someone else. I love caravanning and just wish we could afford a decent van.
Looking at your other thread most of the faults you list could have been spotted at the time you bought the caravan. If you buy a caravan nearly 20 yrs old you can expect it to need a bit of work, no curtains or blinds, did you not notice that when you bought it?
Personally I would'nt be buying a caravan off what appears to be a part time dealer off ebay or anywhere else. Stick to caravans being sold by sellers who have owned & used the caravan for some time.
If you are buying an old caravan, its fairly irrelevant what the seller says, its what you can see with your own eyes.

You didn't get the seller ID quite right so I couldn't find him in seller search, but this is the caravan he is selling. Hi the van did have curtains and blinds but i got rid of them, all the blinds were ripped, dum dum here just didn't think to check. The curtains had stains on that i didnt notice at the time. i took them down to clean them but the stains didnt come out so they have been binned. A friend has offered to make me some new ones. anyway i don't want to talk about it anymore with anyone, feel stupid enough as it is! I only wanted to warn other people that if they do want one of his vans then to check them over properly unlike dopey here!
I think you have just got to admit you didn't get it right this time. Had you taken time to look the van over you would have run a mile, or if you didn't applied for a guide dog at the very least!
Ebay and indeed private ads are a case of buyer beware, the onus is on you to check it out and make sure the product meets the description.
Put it down to experience but if you ever part with hard earned money again, take your time to check everything out and don't part with money until you have seen everything working.
Not off Ebay but I bought my first van off one of these dealer resellers. He was honest about what he was doing and had 3 vans around his house but I took his word that it was a good van. I looked around it and believed him when he said it all worked.
I was fortunate and I got away with it and had a reasonable van which we toured france and spain. However, I think stephysue is giving a reasonable warning to all novices - beware. Especially as he appears to be doing the decent thing about how he is selling it on.
