Been away in the van at new year for ages, this year like last about 100 of us at Newark and including Surfer this time
After more and more boring Pub based new years, it's again great to be sure of a cracking night among friends.
Heating should not be a problem, when you get there, give it plenty of heat until it's warmed up completely, don't be tempted to switch it down to early just because the air is hot, you need to pump heat into everything not just the air.
When that's done you should find you can turn the heat down quite low and still keep an even comfortable temperature. Make sure then you don't let it cool off to much or the heating will need turning up high again to restore the losses.
Most Pre 98 vans had far to much floor level ventilation, great in summer but this will prevent the van heating up in cold winter weather.
Not little gas drop holes near appliance gas connections, these of course must be left for safety reasons, but, if you have several holes in the floor venting into the living space, you can block most if not all of them off, otherwise you will never get the van warm.
You actually need very little floor level ventilation, one hole 2inches by 1.1/4inches is enough and the door vents generally bigger than that! Most ventilation is provided at roof level and only a little at floor level is need to control how much is allowed in so stale air escapes naturally and at a reasonable pace through the roof.
If you allow unrestricted cold air to come in at floor level, then air will go straight out the roof barely being heated on it's way through!!

Well for the first tiem we have decided to take the van out in Winter. Off for 3 nights over the New Year and really looking forward to it.
My friends/family look at me as if I am MAD when I tell them I'm going to be in my van in January in the Midlands, but what do you lot thinki? i.e. ordinary people with caravans? Is there anything we need to note about water supply etc. Advice woudl be appreciated.
Looking forward to our Winter outing....busy planning what we are taking with us etc. and just can't wait!
Enjoy as others have said use propane gas(red cyld) insulate your aquaroll, take a
watering can with you for topping up aquaroll (saves faffing about unwrapping aquaroll)if its really cold bring inside some water for your cup of tea in morning
run your heater overnight at the lowest leccy setting same with the blown air
you might find it too warm,we are just back from the Five roads site Blairgowrie
lowest overnight temp -7c lovely and toasty in the van 20c have fun.
