Hi just got back from a trip,during the trip i fitted a propane gas bottle but when i put my heater on there was a really strong smell ,i checked the pipes and bottle and there was no leaks so put blue bottle back on and the smell went my question is does it allways have this smell as i dont fancy using it again if it does.

No it does not smell when in use.  There is something wrong somewhere.

Ye seems a bit strange, when i put the blue bottle back on it was fine i just changed the regulator over ,i wonder can the regulater be faulty?

Ye i borrowed the regulator off the farmer it did look a bit old,think i will buy a new one and try it again,thanks for the replys .

read the other day while waiting for our young lad at swimming lessons.a man had a gas leak with a strong smell entering the van.this turned out to be a faulty regulator. when changed the fault disappeared. for piece of mind buy a new one as they only cost about £4.

Have on two occasions noted that when burnt the propane was unusually smelly.
It like yours went away with changing the cylinder so have put it down to some error in mixing in the the smell agent.
They did get me checking all was well so I am left pretty confident it was the gas companies error.
