Always had static caravan holidays as a child then at about 17 went camping for the first time with a group of friends in a borrowed tent.  When I maried OH we bought our first frame tent, had various frame tents over the years and many, many great holidays with our twin boys.  went away from camping for about 10 years and gave all our caomping gear to one of our sons who still uses our old Cabanon tent with his young family. Came back to camping last year and bought a TT.  After never managing to pack the TT away dry in about 8 outings we decided we'd had enough of wet canvas and have just bought our first caravan; we pick it up the first week of January and we are looking forward to many, many trips especially in 2011 when we will both be retired and we plan to take a long trip around europe...hope the exchange rate is better by then

when we were first married my parents lent us their caravan, it had a box outside for the water container nothing else the food was kept in a sealed box under the van we called it our fridge. we didnt have a car they just left us for a week it was great but neither of us could drive and we had no car.

then a few years later, plus a car we were staying in a b&b near tenby and my nephew and wife were camping in their tent near by. we went to visit them and were so jealous of their relaxed freedom, yet they said they felt the same about us.  when i was expecting my second baby i said lets buy a tent. my mother was horrified.  we had our tent for 3 years then bought a caravan for £1000 a target. just the basics. we loved it , that was in i think 1987.

i love caravanning, i would even tent again but i cant cope with the cold.

caravanned with parents from the day I was born (1950) in a home made caravan at Ingoldmells. They moved on to tourers and I bought my own as soon as I was married. Always had a caravan. Tried folding campers and campervan but back to caravans.

Brother had a campervan...we all went away (7 of us) for a weekend, with some of sleeping in his driveaway awning!!!  Then visited a good friend who vanned and decided I wanted one.   Took me a while to talk hubby into it but eventually, we bought an older van to try it out for ourselves.

Got the bug, kept the old van for 3+ years and recently upgraded.  Now we all love our holidays in our van.

In our 39 years of marriage, we camped in tents for the first 30.  Then we upgraded to a tent trailer for 6 years.  Now we're in our third year in our Caravan, a hybrid travel trailer with folding canvas bunks at each end.

Hi Dreadnought, My first experience of caravanin was is the early 70's after our first child was born.no money and looking for a cheap holidy, bought an ace caravan second hand(boat shape roof, curved front window, slated side windows and steel chassis, don't know the model). got it home, pushed it up driveway, and hole thing rocked from side to side, spoke to a workmate who was into caravaning, and asked for some advice, took off small piece fo panel to see if it had damp,it was totaly rotten top to botton, cut a long story short, re built it from scratch, had it a couple of years the wife decided she wanted holidays in hotels etc, sold it for about the same price of the new fridge, triffic wee van sorry to see it go,bought wee folding caravan about 8 years ago and a few since, current van is a 340/2bert compas lynx, wee bit crampt for space when cooking, very reluctant to trade it in as i love it,it's dry,no damp, have to look long and hard to find a van in this condition,as a bit to cold to do another rebuild. John
