I've a 2007 Bailey Ranger 500/5 which has been (and is) an excellent van that suits our needs well.
The only quirk I've found though, is that it's prone to generate condensation in the rear dinette seating enclosure adjacent to the door (opposite to hot-water tank).
First time I noticed this, the area was quite wet and I was anxious of a leak, however having monitored and checked the area during rainfall, hosing etc., plus during extremes of weather, I've concluded this must be due to condensation, but puzzled why it's confined to this one section only. There's no moisture damage, mildew etc., plus damp meters don't highlight the area as a problem.
So, I'm simply curious if any other 500/5 owners have experienced similar and would welcome replies accordingly.

Paul.

If this is happening while out of use & in storage, I can't help you on a Ranger, but to help combat condensation, we use dishes of salt. One each end & one in the middle of our vans. Non metal dishes & two thirds full. I use it in my vehicles if they're laid up for a period of time too. Works for us.

we have the 500/5 and have not found the condensation in the area you have.found if there is three or four sleeping in the van then the condensation is more profound.to compensate we leave the window open on the second setting overnight.ours is in the front area most and the front windows are steamed up.the large folding door is not fully shut.

I wouldn't expect condensation to make it "quite wet " unless there is a very cold item in a warm area. This could be a cold water pipe for instance. Warm air can hold more moisture than cold air, so when warm air touches something cold, moisture condenses out of the air. I don't think you've got any pipes in the area you describe, so the only cold thing there can be, is the caravan wall, or aluminium trim round the door opening.

If it's damp when the van is unoccupied, I would not think it's condensation as the internal temperature will be close to the outside temperature.

Thanks guys.
Definately condensation as no evidence when un-occupied at all and absolutely no water ingress; I store the van at home so have opportunity to periodically check easily.
Like Michael, I generally have the vent open slightly as I prefer 'fresh air' during the night; her in-doors however generally moans and closes said vents.

While away for four days from Boxing Day, only the two of us and we slept in the front, but I still noticed condensation in the locker area as mentioned. It's confined to the longer outside wall and only beneath seat level. I just find it odd as there's no evidence of similar condensation in the front under-seat sections at all and nothing odd stored in the rear locker

I'll investigate further, however still welcome feedback.

PS: I've done the salt trick BasilBrush, thanks for the tip again though.

you will find in the cold mornings,if you have never looked.at the front seats feel down the rear of the seats and you will find there is evidence of moisture and odd times quite damp.mostly because we leave the heater on all night and the wall is cold.

Hello Paul

We find condensation in our 500/5 in the same areas as you. This is more common when we haven't been away for a while, and then when we do go, heaters on so inside cosy and outside walls still cold. Usually only happens on the first night of the stay. No other signs of damp etc.  Have got it checked out with our dealer at the yearly servicing!

MIght pay you to find a way of spacing the seating off the wall. Most vans have anti condensation panels on the walls behind the seats which do just that. Our 1999 Ranger 510/4 didn't but our new 2010 520/4 will have. I've always pulled the seats forward when storing it. The Ranger probably isn't designed for all year round use like the more expensive vans are. I wonder if they're using modern aluminium framed windows now which act as a cold bridge.

Interestingly Navver, this is something I've considered.
The two front seats have the panels you mention, but the rear dinette seating doesn't (!).

Incidentally, the van performed admirably over x4 night stay from Boxing Day in Cumbria. Dropped to -6 and plenty of snow on the ground (quite a trip to be honest). Oh, and before someone picks up on it, the condensation hasn't been highlighted due to this recent winter use, I've been aware of it for quite some time.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions guys.

Condensation is linked to relative humidity as well as temperature. Just lately the humidity has been fairly low. If it was only below seat level it might be because the walls are colder beneath the seats with less heat from inside the van getting to them..

agree fully for one reason.we sit watching tv and we are very warm.if its a cold day or night the bedding is freezing when we get it out.this is why the rear of the seats are damp in the morning.our old van had the half inch gap boards fitted and no problems. i have thought of fitting some boards.
