I went to the storage where the caravan is kept to ake out some stuff. I was quite surprised to find a frozen hard piece of ice in the water bottle. I know it has been cold but did not realise that it would freeze the little bit of water left in the bottle solid. Good job we drained down the main water system etc.
Went to ours yesterday and found 2 cans of coke had frozen sometime over xmas and had split open around the mouthpiece.Luckily i had placed them in the sink or there would have been a right mess to clean up!

We always make sure we drain everything down. Stack all the cushions away from the walls. Remove any clothes and bedding etc., but after reading the last post, I have checked the fridge.
Sure enough there were a couple of cans of beer and several assorted cans of soft drinks.
We are obviously lucky as none were frozen, or split.
Shows how easy you can forget something!

had to remove the dehumidifier in the caravan on the drive, frozen solid.removed a bottle of blue concentrated fluid and this was frozen.an expansion rate of 8 to 1 can do a lot of damage.one year we had a bottle of cooking oil that turned white with the cold.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
We have our van on the drive too, we have it hooked up and are running the heating on "frost protection"....costing us a fortune!!
Just had a call from someone at our Guide Hall that I look after......the putty in a window has frozen and the pane of (polycarbonate not glass) has fallen out!!
Cannot remember last time it has been so cold for so long.
The expansion buffer thingy on our water system froze & split last year even though I'd drained as much as I could. I discovered it when filling up in March, 3 days before going away. With all the gurgling as the water heater and system filled up I didn't hear it for some time. The bed box had several inches of water in it and luckily it all stayed in there. Managed to get it all out & dry in time to go away.
we are going away at the end of the month Im gonna check before we go. We did drain everything down but went in the van one day and frozen water was hanging off the tap in the kitchen!!

Don't pack your caravanstor away when it's hissing it down with sleet and snow?!
We did and apart from the weight trying to roll it up, we went back the next day to it frozen solid inside the bag, it took an hour to scrape all the ice off, wipe it down and roll it back up
Where we live, the winters are long and cold so each year I have to fully winterize the caravan. I completely drain all water lines and then blow all remaining moisture out with compressed air as I open and close each faucet one at a time. Then I add plumbers antifreeze and pump it through the entire system (other than the water heater and fresh water tank which we bypass and drain dry). If I don't do all this, then there will be carnage with split water lines, damaged pump, etc. I empty all food and beverage products. Last year I forgot about a couple bottles of wine under the dinette seat so had a mess of broken glass and red wine to clean up -- never again! De-winterizing in the spring is the whole process in reverse.

Today I had to take the caravan up to the dealer for repair, a distance of about 15 miles. When I left Malvern the sun was sort of shining.
Got onto the motorway and within 5 minutes it was blizzard conditions and not ideal for towing an empty caravan. By the time I got to the dealer I had a permanent frown on my face from concentrating on where I was going.
Where I live I can often get away without being totally thorough about winterising - although I do it anyway. Not this year! Extra inspection will be needed when the snow and ice finally departs and we can get back to the van's storage yard again.
