hi there am new to caravans and got given a astrol scout caravan 10.5 long sleeps three and is under 6.5 ft wide i think its about 1970 or so , i would love to know the weight as am trying to find out if i can tow it with my 1.6 daewoo lano,s pls any help would be good thanks phill
Does the van not have a rating/weight label on it anywhere. Either near the door or on the front 'A' frame, should have weight limits shown somewhere. Can only find limited info on the Astral Scout, but suspect it will be fairly light-weight given the spec etc.
Do you know the towing weight limit/spec of the Lanos? If not, can you advise on spec (3dr or 4dr, year etc).

Hi phill, If you cant find any info on weight, take all heave thing out of van, accesories and the like, and take van to a public weighbridge, that cost about £10 if you want print out,or the just tell you the weight, should'nt cost you anything, at least you will have better idea of weight you are towing. hope this helps.

thanks for the help !!! i think i will take it to a weighing station and find out i dont want to risk getting them old blues giving me the once over lol !!! i think though reading your advise it should be ok am new to caravaning but cant wait to get away on my first voyage thanks again !!!!!
Our first caravan was a 1960s Ace, glass windows, 10 feet, 4 berth. We didn't know about checking weights etc then, but it was towed easily (even in North Wales up the mountain roads and on windy motorways with no stabiliser) by a 1985 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6 estate.
I don't know the weight of your little Astral Scout, but I can't imagine that it would be any more than 700 Kgs and your Lanos should handle it easily.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
I wouldnt think you would have any probs with that set up weightwise.ive just googled a picture of one and they look a cracking little retro van.Is it in good nick?

I've just looked it up in Glasses Guide, the Astral Scout 1050T seems to have only been made up to 74, in 75 it became the 1000S and shorter at 10.25ft long.
Shame is no weights qouted in these days, don't suppose it was that important, most would be very light with little in the way of creature comforts?! It's also highly unlikely to weigh what it did originally for the same reason
lol thanks for all the help Dreadnought its in good nick getting a friend to 240volts in it so i can but a tv etc in it . i have towed it back from newcastle but with a bigger car and i didit feel like i had it on the back lol but now got my smaller car just checking as am on a new driving licence and only can tow 3.5 tone including the car well you will know the rest lol !!!!!!!! , I wish that i new van cost £637 now "arc systems" i got this one to save some money as me and the famliy love to get away lol thanks for all the help the site is top !!!!!!!!!!!!!
There used to be a rule that my Father used. They weigh one and a quarter hundredweight per foot and you can tow one hundredweight per 100 cc or something like that. I may have remembered it wrong but someone on here must remember the rule.
