hello,my caravans in a pretty exsposed place over the winter months so i`ve bought one of those breathable caravan covers.i`m going to put it on this weekend.is it ok to put it on if the caravans wet or does it need to be dry?
If it's breathable you'll get a certain ammount of seepage anyway especially on the roof. I've been using one for 5 years now and I've put the cover on both wet and dry. If it's wet the cover will retain the moisture until it drys out. If it's dry the sides of the van will stay mostly dry and the roof will get slightly wet. On the whole the caravan is better off with the cover on than without it, no dirt, bird muck, leaves and green stuff and it protects the joints from water/ice damage.

Remember that if you put a cover on a wet van then its freezes, you will not be able to remove it, until it has thawed.
Yes, I had that problem Christmas, had to use a hair dryer to get it off!!!
we bought a cover last year and havent been able to put it on since october due to the weather . we couldnt clean it in time to put it on . then it rained non stop untill christmas and now the snow .
so we too are hoping to put our cover on as soon as possible. any tips would be much appreciated, i know we need to clean it . we have a "specialised accessories" one.
it might not be worth putting on now we shall be going out at the end of march for our first trip of the year.

My caravan is at a storage site in quite an exposed place and I'm in the same position. I used the van at August bank holiday last year and haven't been able to put the cover back on it since then. I can't manage it on my own, and there's never been anyone up at the storage site who has been willing or able to help. It's an old van - 20 years - and as I've had no transport since October I've been unable to go to check on it, so I'm a bit worried about it having been out in all this awful weather.

Try your very best not to expose the inside of the cover to open ground, it will pick up grit which over a period will score the paintwork. I always put the cover on the roof of the caravan and roll it out lenghthways, then pull the sides down being carefull to get it over the chimney. Roll it up in reverse pulling the cover towards you from the front of the caravan after putting the sides up onto the roof. I usually manage to do it on my own although being over 6 foot helps. I always try to put the cover on a dry and clean caravan though this is not always possible. Last year I did'nt use the van for 6 months during the winter, when I took the cover off the van looked as good as when I put it away. Most vans spend a good deal of time not doing anything (you'll be very lucky to spend more than 50 days in it a year) so you need to protect it and your investment.
