Well it was confirmed today that the law IS changing on 20th April but that the VAT will increase from that date too. So I'm very glad I ordered mine already! Saving me well over £3k

i can hear the sound of tearing aluminium and the snapping of gateposts.
i feel there may be some gates they will not go through at that width.
I have a concrete pillar alongside my gate and had to trim that down to get my current van in.
some sites have stone pillars and need an accurate line up to get in.unless these have gone there could be a few dents, seen one that hit a hinge in a stone pillar and opened it like a sardine tin.not nice.
I should think that there is a possibility that owners of wider caravans may well be more careful when maneuvering their vans through tight spaces lessening the likelihood of damage as you describe Michael

lol,you and i may well do but you do not ask how wide is your gate? when you book at a site.well i don't anyway. just saying the gates could be too narrow however careful the driver.it could mean they will not be allowed to book at certain sites.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
An issue raised on another thread that may not have been picked up is that it is only the width that is to change on the 20th April. If you propose to buy a van that is 2.5m wide (the new limit) but the van exceeds 7 meters in length (excluding the coupling device and draw-bar ) you can still only legally tow with a vehicle that has a kerb weight of not less than 3500Kg (commercial vehicle). A 4 x 4 will not satisfy that weight requirement.
So if you are buying a foreign make van with the bigger width check the length. Don't assume that your car can legally tow it.
