Hi all.Got the chance of buying a vw camper from a family member. Now we love our puny little caravan to bits and wouldnt dream of parting with it yet, but sooner or later we're going to need something bigger.Theres just not enough room for three, sometimes four of us in the freedom.I was wondering...if i bought the camper and towed the freedom with it[already has a hitch] to the campsite and then parked the camper where you'd normaly park the motor, and whoever was with us''camped in the camper'',would that be classed as having two dwellings on one pitch. Now i dont mind paying for extra people when we camp,i've done this numerous times, but i don't want to be charged twice for the same pitch. This might be a cheap solution ive been looking for.Has anyone else done the same thing? Thanks all.

They don't usually charge extra for a pup tent or awning annexe & your set-up would take less space so I can't see you being charged more. You'd still only be using one pitch & hook-up (if you use electric) & would still take up less room than those with big vans & 4x4s.
Don't know for sure, but this is what common sense tells me. Probably completely wrong tho!
Why not ring a couple of sites & ask them?

Some sites will probably charge you twice best thing would be to phone and enquire a site you wish to visit. Its similar when we take our folding camper and then erect a pup tent on the same pitch ,sometimes you have to pay extra.

Haven sites will definately charge you twice, our daughter allowed her friend to sleep in the back of her(daughters) estate car on an airbed last year just for an overnight visit, and had a severe ticking off by one of their staff early the next morning who had spotted her with makeshift curtains up to the car windows. They demanded that she pay the extra pitch fee for the night or vacate the pitch she was on for which she had paid for a full weeks stay.
When she got home she wrote a letter of complaint to Havens head office, and recieved a reply that every tent, campervan, caravan or car that someone sleeps in has to be a regulatory distance apart as specified by the fire officer, and this rule was not just to make more profit for the site. An awning was seen as an extension and part of the caravan for this purpose.

You shouldn't connect 2 units to a single EHU either.
Sorry if I wasn't clear - I was assuming that only one or the other would be connected & not using 2 EHUs. I wasn't suggesting trying to hook both up to the same one.
I have seen a set up like this and the folks who had it told us that they used the campervan for eating in and their 2 berth caravan for sleeping in.
The beds in the caravan were permenantly made up as beds and they had their toilet there as well.
However, the campervan was kept in original layout because if they went touring about during the day, if they saw somewhere where they fancied staying, they overnighted in the campervan, not returning to the caravan until they were ready to do so.
To me, this set up for 2 people makes perfect sense, however it is not the answer if the reason for having it is because of more people. Then, I am afraid the only solution is a bigger van and tow car.
PS. They only paid for one unit on a pitch because they were only sleeping in one unit.
