We are going to view this caravan tomorrow and would like your opinions on where or not it seems to be a good buy, the owner says he has it advertised for £1250 however he is open to offers. He has pointed out that the bathroom picture show the lining is coming of the wall and has been like this since he purchased it 4 years ago, he states that there is no damp at all and no leaks, the chassis is galvanised and seems to be ok, the only thing he said to get checked is the gas heater as he has never used this.

sounds like damp to me buy a damp meter before you go and use it in all the corners.it may cost you as much to repair if its damp.B+Q OR HOME BASE should have one about £15.

20 years old, lining coming off, bathroom not connected, heater condition unknown - I would not even waste petrol going to look. I don't think I would consider his starting price of £250.
There are much better caravans out there for your money. Or cheaper ones in this condition.
If you do go to view, take a good sniff when you go into the van.Damp has a smell thats very hard to mask. If,when you arrive, the seller has the doors and windows in the van open, this could also point to damp problems as the seller may be trying to air the van out for when you arrive.

the van doesnt seem that bad at all we paid more for our 1989 van and god we were done at the time, but alot of work got it ok,
if they start coming up with little faults when your there might be worth backing out, as some of the little things can cost quite abit of money to sort.
Truth is nobody can tell if this 'van is a good buy by looking at the pictures. You need to look at the van, which you are going to do. As the others say, main thing is to look(& sniff)for is damp. If damp has got into 'van & not been fixed over a long period of time it will be scrap & not worth buying, but if its ok then go for it. If he is open to offers, take cash, waving £20 notes under a seller's nose will often persaude them!

Nawer - they said they have never used the bathroom except for the loo, they have always used campsite facilities for shower/washing.
mikecandsarhab - thanks for your comments, we appreciate it,

But they said the lining was off when they got it. The damage was done before they bought it 4 years ago. The previous owner may have used the shower & caused the problem.
I wonder why the basin & shower are disconnected. This would only have been done if there was a problem, such as a leak
The site now shows this "On 31-Jan-10 at 12:22:10 GMT, seller added the following information: Please note we have been advised that the bathroom has a small area of damp".
Nawer - This was added after we did our viewing today, the seller did say that he would add this on his listing.

We took our damp metre with us and found the damp, yes it was only in one small area althogh there were signs of the lining coming away in other areas of the bathroom, no damp was shown on the metre.
We have decided not to buy this van though as it was a little too small for our needs.
