We Bought an outdoor reveloution techlite last year and only used it for a week, it crackled like a crisp packet in the slightest breeze, The long 'Pod' that forms the storage for being able to leave the awning attached to the van whilst towing, flapped on the van roof during the night, keeping us awake, and it was awkward to get it to sit tight up by the sides of the van.

So, for this season we are looking at buying a Kampa 390, but are wondering if the fabric would be as loud and crackly in the wind, how well they fit to the sides of the van, and if they are easy to put up for someone not so nimble and advanced in years lol.

Do the 4 down poles that go along the front connect at window height, or are they all in one piece? do you need a step to fit the roof stay bars?

Sorry for somany questions but after the last disaster at awning buying we want to get it right this time.

Thanks,

Julia

Julia, I have a copy of the Kampa, which is branded as a Starcamp 260 (£160) and even though i am a novice caravaner i have used it a few times, including a very windy October weekend in Brecon.

The awning is easy to put up and take down, it sits tight to my van and seems to be really sturdy. I didn't notice any noise in the night from the awning, but a few glasses of red might have masked any noise.

The flexi poles in my awning go from ground level to the awning rail on the van. I used the normal caravan step to insert the stay bars.

Thanks Anthony, I have had a ride up to Robinsons of Chesterfield today, in hope that they may have had one as part of their large indoor display, but they were all more conventional Isabellas and NRs that were on offer, so still on the look out for one in the flesh so to speak before we finally buy.

Where did you buy yours from?

Julia

Dinmore Caravans in Herefordshire. They have pics on their flea bay shop. My friends have used the larger version for the last few years as their only awning and it seemed good value.

I think i read somewhere on here before that the Starcamp and Kampa are actually made at the same factory and just branded differently?? But don't quote me on that.

We have never had a full awning, and now, with a big van, a full awning would be huge.

We have a Trio Midi porch we used with our previous van, it is very good. But then we discovered Fiammas.

We now have a Fiamma ZIP 3.6 metre, plenty big enough for us, very easy to erect, and sturdier than you might think.

So one Trio Midi for sale!

Just out of interest - do people tend to keep the interior of the caravans clear and pack everything into the storage areas or is it common to put the packed awning (smelly wet canvas - springs to mind) in the floor space????

I used to put the awning on the floor over the axle in the old van, then when we get home I put it on one of the seats. There was nowhere else to put it. In the new van, I put it on the floor for towing, for weight distribution, then put it under the fixed bed when we get home. The fixed bed is brilliant for storage, but being at the back, you can't put much in it when towing.

I agree with Romany Girl we also bought a an outdoor revolution Techlite and every time we put it up it was different,,,,never ever the same shape, also its difficult to get into because the door isnt full height, finally we found it attracted lots of insects at night, so not that keen on it, we did have a full size Isabella Awning with the van we have just sold, however it was so big and heavy we rarely put it up, we are going to have a lkook at the show on saturday....weather permitting as it is really heavy snow here today !!!

We holiday in France all the time, and always have just the canopy of the full awning up - it would just get tooooooooooooooo warm with all the sides in.  Now we've bought a sun canopy, (a bit like this one) and we'll just use that.  We haven't had the sides in our awning for many years.

We do have a porch awning as well, which is useful for weekends away.
