Hi
When we purchase or van we have been thinking about buying a cover for it when not in use to keep it clean.
What are your views on covers, are they worth buying or not?
Thanks

we bought one for our caravan as it is kept by 4 big conifirs which turn eveything yellow in Mar to May. Our cover is breathable and I think it is a good investment (£75) and protects it from the elements as well as making it less noticeable from the road as the green blends into the trees.
It does take 2 people to put it on though.

Caravan Club recommendation is not to ...
Not quite correct. CC says it probably isn't necessary to use a cover but in some circumstances it may be, due to the location in which the 'van is stored, such as under trees. They then advise use of a purpose-made caravan cover made from a breathable material. So, in other words, use one if you feel it is advantageous, and a proper cover fitted correctly is OK.
Q: Does The Club recommend the use of covers to protect the caravan from the weather during the winter?
A: Large polythene or tarpaulin sheets should not, in the opinion of most experts, be used to ‘seal’ the caravan against the elements. Condensation and mould growth may be encouraged and any flapping material or guy ropes could scratch acrylic windows. If you feel a cover is absolutely necessary because of where the caravan is parked, however, purchase one that is made of ‘breathable’ material.

We have thought about getting one following a spate of thefts of parts off caravans at our storage site. We think that if the 'van is covered, it will be one more thing for the little ******** to shift before they can get to anything of value (and it won't be immediately obvious if our van is the type they want the bits off!). We're going to have a look at those taylor-made ones at the NEC later this month (assuming they are there) and get some further information.

Unfortunately the little b*****ds won't remove it the normal way, they will use a Stanley knife or similar to remove it, or see what is underneath.
