Yes but then some motorhome owners say they "upgraded" from a caravan.

I do think snobbery exists, my parents neighbours are HUGE van snobs, they have a 2000 Bailey and every time they mention it they always say it's "top of the range".

 

Have'nt really noticed it, we find most people say hello and pass the time of day.

We are fortunate enough to have a new car and will have a new Pegasus soon, but we worked hard to get them. Plus  we are of the age where our mortgage has gone and have no kids either!

Certainly does not worry us to see older outfits, in fact I like to see well cared for older outfits!  Or "classic cars and vans!"

If someone wants to be snobbish- well then they probably are'nt worth talking to!

I think it depends what you define 'snobbery' as. 

Certainly, there are various grades of van - from budget to premium.  Some 'badges' are aimed at particular sectors of the market e.g. 'Vanmaster' are renowned for being premium vans and many are simply nostalgic names and brand identities.  Just a means of differentiating what is really just a trailer of one sort or another!

I don't think the level of investment or the badge dictates whether someone is a snob or not.  They are only snobs if they think it makes them better people because of what they have!

I think it is perfectly fine to regard a further investment as an 'upgrade'.  To me, it simply refers to increased investment - not 'looking down' on other people in attitude.  I wouldn't feel at all slighted by someone who told me that they had upgraded from a caravan to a motorhome, for example.  If you were changing from a £200 caravan to a £500 tent - you would still be upgrading in my book.

I don't know if theres snobbery but..... when we first got our latest van,we used to get people looking oddly at us....big 4wd towing a big twin axle.Hardly anyone speaks to us,I don't know why-we try to strike up a conversation,we're fairly approachable people,always polite and love to talk.Maybe we're giving off 'vibes' that I'm unaware of? But it was different with our last van,a 98 ABI.Had many more people talk to us,make friends etc.

What a shame!  That's other people making assumptions that you'll be snobs because of what you've got.  We'd speak to you.  We're more interested in the people than what they drive or sleep in (altho have to say I'd love to have a look around some of the outfits we've seen - those big trailer jobbies, the little pop-tops & saw the coolest looking Airstream last weekend!)
