I have a chance to buy a Bailey Ranger 380-2 2003 or Avondale Dart 380 2004 and wondered what would be the best buy. I know Avondale are not in business anymore but the van is looking very good too, both around the same price. Just wondered if anybody has had either that can give me advice please.
A number of things you need to consider. Not least which will tow better. Some of the Avondales have the gas locker over the axle which was an excellent idea when you consider some of the problems people encounter with noseweights on Baileys. Also unless you have a large towcar, you may wish to consider the weight ratio. Whilst the guideline may say aim to get below 85%, 85% is not a magic figure whereby anything over is automatically dangerous and anything under is automatically safe. I would still rather be towing at 75% to 80%
hi we bought an avondale last august,we was told if anything did go wrong with it there would not be a problem with repairs, it tows very nice with our paccassio,we are very pleased with it,
I'd go for whichever one had the nicest interior colour scheme - but then I'm female!
Seriously tho, go for whichever of the 2 gives you that good feeling when you sit in it. Whichever one you feel you belong in (assuming they're both in good nick with no problems).
I was hoping for answers yesterday but maybe I was late posting. Today we had a 360 mile round journey and bought an Avondale Mayfair which is like the Avondale Dart 380-2 but this one is a special with alloy wheels and even blown air heating into the awning.and it was still like brand new not a mark inside or out. With the seats being interior sprung with armrests we could not get over our luck. They even gave us a years guarantee with other items such as an awning and £100 voucher to spend in their shop. What a great place to buy a caravan Castlecroft Camping in Radcliffe Manchester. I couldn't recommend them more. Happy Happy Happy.
The Mayfair is a Glossop Caravans "Dealer Special" based on the Dart, usually with alloys, external gas and electric points, awning heater outlet, radio CD player, and interior sprung seats with different material, our 470/2 originally had a spice rack and a "Glossop special" towel set and wine glasses.
They were good value compared with the basic Dart.
Congratulations on your Avondale purchase. We've had ours since last June. It too was like new (a 2008) and we absolutely love it and just cannot fault it ! I'm sure you will too.
Wow! You did travel a long way for it! Glad you're pleased with your choice. I'll have to make a note of the dealer name - another camping shop to add to my list!
Well I couldn't go to sleep keep shutting my eyes and seeing cones on the motorway and branch offs and things. I also got lost, took too much notice of AA Autoroute which I think must have been for a different country. so thought I would have another look at photos I took. He did say it was a Glossop special and it would be worth our journey to view it. I forgot to mention he also gave me a 110AH leisure battery and converter to fit my 13 pin Euro plug plus 1 years warranty. They had some fantastic vans there. I might switch from supporting Arsenal to Manchester now
Castlecroft? I daren't mention that place to my dad. He bought a brand new compass omega 482 from them 2 years ago and it went back around 4 times in all for things that weren't right and the salesman threw a strop at him for "being a pain". After threatning to put his head through the nearest window he was kindlt asked to leave the premises. Would never use them for anything again and find the shop expensive. I was very surprised when I bought my van from Discover at Delamere. What great people and couldn't do enough for me.
I did put a smilie re Arsenal and Manchester. 2 years is a long time in business these days so perhaps they changed their ways and new salesman, but everybody we spoke to there were really friendly.
